Strange!

We're going to start a Rogue bass for our showroom out of this unusual wood.

This is a large plank. How many instruments can possibly be made out of it?

Is the tone of white ebony the same as dark ebony? i.e. has it the same density?

This plank will yield about 4 top laminates.

It didn't seem as amazingly heavy as the Ebony behind it in the picture, but it is still heavy. I'll have to check the specific gravity to be sure though.

I'll let you know what I learn about the sound in about 3-4 months.

What are our chances of getting an acetone wipe?

Repeat to self: you only *want* a new Alembic, you do not *need* one.

You only *want* a new Alembic, you do not *need* one.

You only *want* a new Alembic, you do not *need* one.

Okay, it's not working, any suggestions?

Bradley; if you don't have a White Ebony Alembic, how do you know you don't need one?

That might make a pretty nifty fretboard - though the same look-dirty-quick problem as with maple would probably apply.

Dave,

You realize that's the equivalent of saying, come to the dark side, we have cookies?

Isn't there some buddhist mantra I can use or something?

Ommm...my I want an fretless 5 string elan with this top.

First one with sealer coats:

This is the least interesting piece, and it's interesting!
I think you're safe on this one, Bradley, it's not a fretless, and I don't think the board is quite wide enough for an Elan.

That's actually a good question, Peter.

Mica:

Is this something you'd use for a fretboard?

just curious.

I suppose there's nothing stopping it from being used as a fretboard, at least for a fretted bass. Would probably get a little grungy in the light areas.

We hung this in the showroom today:

Now, somebody should try the option to use this wood on the fretboard TOGETHER with the same wood for the body - for one continuous look. Why not even as a sealed fretless? It would be amazing to look at. (I mean, even more amazing!) 5-string, maybe? Anybody? The Class? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
