Beautiful figuring!
-
... but what a body! Lovely.
-
Wow! Thanks, Mica! She looks just like I thought she would!
Justin
-
That top wood's sure a beauty!
-
Thanks! I can't wait to see what it looks like all buffed up. The back and the headstock are going to be burl maple as well. Worth the wait for sure!
Justin

Hi Valentino -
I just got your voicemail, and tried calling back but I think you had left for the weekend. Sorry I missed you.
Regarding the front of the peghead, the dealer had given me the quote for burl maple (same as back and top of body). So, if the original quote included the burl and the workorder just didn't match (ie it won't be an additional cost) then I'd rather have the burl instead of ebony. But if it's going to be an additional cost, then let's just stick with the ebony that's on there now. Let me know.
Have a nice weekend!
Justin
-
Ok, no problem, it will be burl maple then. No difference in cost.
Valentino
-
Cool. Thanks, Valentino!

My fellow burl brothers...
Love it Justin. I'm sure You like it even more than I do! The contrast with the purpleheart is very appealing.
Remember, patience is a virtue.
Good luck with it.
Tom
-
Good stuff, thanks Mica! BTW I'm digging the headstock - I think it looks awesome!
And thanks Tom/Jeff for the kind words. I'm in no rush at all here, and it looks great so far - well worth the wait. And holidays are upon us after all!
On that note - happy holidays everyone!

i go over to the boxcar on tuesdays but those blues guys bore me-lol and of course as bass i have to follow most of the time and then you can get stuck with a 65 yr old drummer who cant counta 4/4
sticks mcgilicuty is my nickname for that guy..
been up to the georgetown saloon..once...
i play friday nights in bklyn with friends and in a band based on long island but gigs are far and VERy few between.....
so am looking to do something up here and maybe play out..
was about to look into putting add in the fairfield weekly... that free paper./...
by the way- WAIT til you see your guitar after the first sprays,.,,, man its gonna come alive...

Justin:
Jeff's right, the burl is going to look very tasty with the finish on. Maybe you two can start a Burl band. Think of the possibilities: The Milton Burls, The Burl Ives
Jeff:
If you want to advertise for bandmates, try craigslist.org. They have local ones all over the country. We found the last two Stonetrout lead guitarists through craigslist after getting a lot of responses to the ads. It seems to work and it's FREE! So what more could you want?

How about dressing up in woman's lingerie and calling yourselves Burlesque?
-
lol
I'm less than a 10 minute ride from Sono, on the Darien/Rowayton border of Norwalk. There's a small place near me called the River Cat that sometimes has good bands. The Boxcar is a fun place too. I've never made it to Georgetown, but I've been meaning to once the Stones finish touring, keep my fingers crossed for a Keith sighting.
Unfortunately I don't think I'd be able to make the kind of time to be in a real band, but certainly a jam from time to time to get the kinks out...!
You guys are right about the burl, I'm so excited to see it with the finish - there's a pic of a Series 1 bass on the G Guitars website that made my mind up for me to go with the burl. It's still there, but they took down the close-up pics of it - they were outstanding.
I'm off to see Joshua Redman tonight. Have a good weekend y'all.
Justin
-
Mica & Co - any progress to report on this? Been a while...
Thanks,
Justin
-
We're gettin close, Justin. Burl woods need a lot more finish than the others. Gotta seal all those pesky holes in the burl. It should come out of spray possibly later this week to get the inlaid logo. Then a couple more coats, final set up and we're ready. It does look stunning.
Valentino
-
Cool, thanks for the update Val.
BTW did Chris from G Guitars contact you with the final delivery address for the guitar (my work address)?
Justin
-
im excited and its not even mine!
hmmmm burl maple
justin
you definitely bringing that bad boy over to my place,,,, jammalama
-
Hey guys, sweet lookin burl tribute, i love the figure in that wood, nothing is more exotic to me than some fancy wood like that! I realized you guys live about 30 minutes from me in CT. i live in Derby, about 5 minutes from G Guitars! we should all meet up and show off our new guitars!
-
if i could leave my wallet home
i would head up to g for a look one day
lol
-
The CT crowd seems to be swarming over Alembics! Good times. Sure I'll meet up, lets just hope no one shows up to rob your house that day...!
Justin
-
Yeah , im getting instrument insurance soon. Im always afraid my gear is gunna get ripped or busted one day. I wish i got it earlier, I had my brand new breedlove custom shop acoustic on a stand, and my prs fell right through the top. It was not cheap to fix to say the least. The points on the prs headstock gave the breedlove a run for its money. I think that since the guys in CT get to know and see the Alembics, that they eventually want one!
-
any photo updates?
i'll take any anything., with some finish on it....
please
-
Me too, Jeff!
Any more updates, guys? I haven't heard from you in about a month.
Thanks
Justin
-
Mica & Val - any word on when you'll be shipping? Val had mentioned perhaps this week.
Thanks
Justin
-
I'm dyin to see this burl with a finish on it. Come on we need our photo fix.
-
Hello Alembic?? Anyone there?
-
Jon's in the middle of rubbing out your guitar:
Burl can sometimes be ornery, but it's worth it! I'll post another pic in a day or two when the rubout is complete, it will knock your socks off.
-
Whoa - it looks fantastic. Thanks for the update!
JC
-
WOW!
-
Jon finished the rubout, and brought it in the setup room today to start assembling all the goodies. I got this nice shot of the peghead with inlay:
The mother of pearl has a wonderful opalescence, flashing red to pink to green to blue. After setup, the guitar will rest a few days for the final testing so shipping is probably the first week of April.
-
Looking great Justin. Love that burl!
T
-
Hey Mica and co - really, I have to say this looks 20x better than I could have hoped for (and I'm sure it looks even tastier in person). I'm very excited to see it!
Justin
-
Awesome looking guitar Justin. Won't be long now.
Tom
-
Rumor has it my Further shipped yesterday! Sweeeeet.
Justin
-
Justin:
Congrats! And please, a full report and pictures when it arrives!

I think you are really going to like this instrument. Let us know when you get it!
-
Absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!!!! In this picture, it has a real vintage vibe. Excellent choice of wood. Enjoy her, Justin.
Bill, tgo
-
Justin - your guitar looks fantastic!! Beautiful!
Congratulations. I look forward to your review of this beauty. =)
Tom
-
Uhm, I'm not really sure what to say - it's incredible! It's going to be a long week waiting for it to arrive.
Mica and Valentino - did you get the proper shipping address (in Rowayton, CT)? I sent it by email a few times, and G Guitars called me on Friday to ask me to confirm it with both them and you, but I never heard back from anyone.
Grazie!
Justin
-
wowie wow wow
the shipping address is here in norwalk!
lmao
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet
hmmmm burl maple......
-
Wow! No wonder they call burl maple the jewel of the forest.
Congratulations.
-
I agree with Bill; gorgeous!!
-
this guitar makes me more comfortable with the move to replace the coco bolo on the tribute bass
-
Yeah Jeff, the burl really is cool looking isn't it? I bet your bass is going to look great.
Justin
PS - I have hired a PI to investigate your movements and to keep you away from the UPS site...!
-
Man I love burl maple and this is a fine piece indeed. Too bad it's on a guitar ;)
-
I like the color. Is that the natural color of the burl maple or was there a tint added?
Keith
-
NICE!!!!
-
Great question, Keith. I have no idea if they added some tint. The last photo up there seems to resemble the other Alembic burl maple instruments I've seen, for whatever that's worth.
Justin
-
This is a clear finish - no tints involved except those provided by Nature in the wood. Chip picked out some nice golden Flame Maple for the neck too.
On my monitor, the color shows a bit darker than the actual guitar.
-
Thanks, Mica. It's gorgeous either way!
Justin
-
just got back from ups in norwalk
anyone interested in a fine lookin geeetar?
-
Thanks. Even if it is a shade lighter in person I like the color of the wood. Something to keep in mind and add to the list of possibilities.
-
Wow. Beautiful top, Justin... I'll have to add this one to the list of guitars that almost make me wish I played.... almost ;]
None the less, I wish you many years of enjoyment with your new friend.
-Austin
-
Congratulations, sir! It's a stunning beauty and unsurpassed gem!
-
It just showed up at my office (thankfully it managed to evade Jeff!).The long day suddenly got even longer. It is really amazing!
Keith - the wood is quite dark looking, to my eyes it looks about the same as Mica's picture. It surprising how small this guitar is - I mean, I knew it was small but in pictures it looks a lot bigger!
I'll take some photos and post when I can (and when I manage to pry myself away from my amp).
Thanks all!
Justin
-
justin
lets get together at your covenience
would love to see- hear- touch
we'll jam as soon as the wolf gets back
use my email address off my profile
-
Justin,
Congrats. Guess the next time we'll hear from you will be in a couple of days? :-)
The color looks good with me. I like what I see in the picture and might go with the burl maple for my next custom bass.
Keith
-
Justin-
Be careful with that baby today. We're having some crappy cold weather up in these parts so watch out about letting it go through too quick a temperature change.
Congrats on a real beauty!
-
Indeed Bob - I had to adjust the truss rod and the bridge a bit when I got home, as the high E was buzzing a bit and had some dead spots. Seems much better now though. Now I need another month or so to figure out the controls, find the sweet spots, and then do it all over again with my Lonestar... I better clear the calendar!
Jeff - I'll fire you an email. I'll be tied up the next few weekends, but after that let's do some jammin'.
Justin
-
I was worried more about the finish cracking as a result of rapid temp change. The way Alembic coats these things over and over, I bet they're less susceptible than many other instruments, but it wouldn't be out of the question.
Glad it's home safe and sound!
