It's one of the only times you'll actually see the wood in the neck:

Danno;
Another one? Dude, I'm not worthy!!
Good luck. Looking forward to watching this one grow up!!
The 'Ho...
-
This one will be maple top 5, lined fretless, ebony board, rouge guts, side led's, bridge block, black finish. If you talk to Susan or Mica long enough........ you just end up ordering one. I just have to be careful of that series 2 phone call!
I wanted a fretless I could play out with that was in keeping with my usual stage set up. The 7 is very out of place in a heavy situation.
-
One of the last times you'll see it, but you'll foverever know there's some nice Flame Maple tucked under the finish:

-
Gracious but you folks are fast! Thanks for the update. Have a great day and give my best to all in the mothership. Btw, I ordered and received 10 Kay mugs and a tote bag to tide me over. Great graphics on the mugs folks!
Danno
-
Why in the world would you cover up that top!
Why o why, ooohh the humanity
-
Be assured I have my reasons and I have more than ample figured, quilted and flamed instruments. Flamed & Quilted Maple, Figured Walnut, Flame Koa, Cocobolo, Vermillion, inlays, initials, leds, 4,5,6 and 7 bangers, black, almost black, saphire blue, red finishes, pinstripe, deluxe purpleheart, neck thru and set, Excel, Spoiler, Essence, Europa- Distillate, Signature guts, AXY, MXY, Fatboy all courtesy of the artisans from Santa Rosa. But only the Black (and nearly black) Beauties get to go on tour.
-
I dig Danno, but is it a tone thing that you notice with the flame maple or could you have gone with a plain top? Just curious as I'm very aware of your killer collection.
-
From what I've seen of Danno's website, I think black is probably the only colour that would fit ;-)

-
The folks at the mothership pick out the top. I think that they like to build the best instrument possible. If someday I choose to have a refinish done, I know what to expect and the beauty will be there.
(but it don't come cheap as we all know) If I had a wife and kids I would not have a collection.
-
Danno, .....I so, so, hear you.
-
If I am correct in assuming that you are among the single situation crowd Rami, then you above all of us without the spouse can look around and sigh that sigh of contentment. They only make noise when we touch them. And that is a comforting thought. Plus I hear they have great gentlemen's clubs in Canada. So if we ever forget what womenfolk look like, we can go and refresh our memories.
-
Yes, but even the greatest Alembic Series II (when laying next to you) hurts when you (accidentally) roll over onto it.

and you will have knob and tunner prints on your ribs and arms...

Cody was carving your neck today:

-
It a look a nice uh and a thin! Thanks very much and pass along my best wishes to all of the miracle workers.
If the spirt moves you,any refinish pics could be mixed in here. No pressure dear, after all you are digital imaging for two!
-
Any news on both my black beauties?
Hope you are all well and having some good times..........good times............ain't we lucky we got em'!
-
More paint in the next few weeks so I am told. GAS is so bad I bought a new Trek bike w/ safety leds! Now I will pedal my anxiety away, plus the gym, plus Chi Gong and my return to Ba Gua Kung Fu classes.
-
Major opaqueness for you, sir:
It's hiding behind your other adopted child, but you can still see what's going on.
-
Thanks! I was getting antsy. New recordings in the works, new label interest. major distribution this time if all is right in the world. Nice to see my children aren't lonely in the room with all those flamboyant fellers hanging around, they have eachother.
Have a wonderful labor day with the whole family!
-
Is the paint dry yet?
-
Left a message about another installment Mica.
-
Thanks Danno. With the Series I/II Christmas miracle rush here, I'm thinking your almost twins will be a New Year blessing.
-
You never rush a miracle man. You get rotten miracles. -- Miracle Max, _The Princess Bride_
-
I understand completely. Daahink! For you.... anyting! So vhats a nudder veek or two amongst friends? I tell you boobbalah, Lets hope dat dose ultra custom fancy-schmansy folks appreciate us little people what issss vaitink dat much longer so dey may haff deir bass unt play it too.
-
WOW! What a cool way to kick off the New Year, Danno! Good luck with the twins, and the recording and label things! Hope all works out!
BCoool, Mike, tho
-
Any progress on the rubouts?
-
I ducked in the spray booth tonight (holding my breath!) and saw your basses hanging where clear coats dry. They look very black and very shiny!
Give me a call on Monday -- I'll have a chance to ask Bob for an estimate.
-
Thanks, and if you could let me know what the balance is for the two that would be super................ really super.
-
Thanks to Mica for the update! Black is more of a pain in the (fill in your favorite colorful metaphor) than clear finishes. These folks are real craftsmen and really care about doing a great job. The finish needs more coats to be up to standard so I'm more than willing to wait a while longer. Ces't la Vie! These will go nicely with my new Really black Chevy HHR Panel wagon. I'm having new black wheels installed on Wednesday so it will be even blacker! Now I'll be ready for those huge stages like Jason Newstead. Black Alembics with leds. Nothing quite like em'!
-
Any news dear heart?
-
I know you can handle seeing this picture:
This is in rub out, after wet sanding. The bass is waiting to chill out after the friction of sanding and will get polished tomorrow or Monday.
The Essence bass is already buffed out, so you'll be getting them both at the same time.
-
Almost looks like it was spitting up after a good Similac feeding!
I told you not to giggle the baby so much!
Thanks for the pic!
-
What kind of hardware it's getting? I think blackened would be perfect!
-
Standard for this model. All my axes have the same hardware set up save the Essense above that has chrome. All the older ones have chrome Schallers w/ brass bridges and the newer Gold Gotohs with brass bridges.
-
Wow Danno! And I thought I was the resident Excel-aholic. That's a real beauty... a Blacker than Black Beauty!
-
You have me beat by a mile my friend. A Canadian wilderness mile or is that kilometer?
This only makes 4 Excel 5's, 5 Spoilers (4,5,6,7), 2 Essence 5's, 1 Distillate 5, 1 Epic 5, 1 exploiter Persuader type 4, 1 Elan 6 and one Skylark. And not a series to be had! Someday..... someday...... if the next album takes off and a nice tour....... then perhaps i can make that call? A Series 2 10 string. Oh yeah, thats the ticket! Thank the Lord I don't have a wife. Man dies suddenly under suspicion, irate wife puts collection on auction block. Non musical pool boy seen as constant companion to widow.
-
You have another Black Beauty brewing there, Danno. She'll fit in well with the rest of the family. As far as the Wife goes, it depends on who you find. I guess I'm lucky. Mine is extremely supportive of my music, put's up with my severe affliction of G.(ear) A.(quisition)S.(yndrome), and actually talked me INTO ordering my current Custom build (which, really, didn't take a whole LOT of prodding =). She was smitten with the Heart Omega, which was a must for her blessing! Maybe someday for you, the right one will come along to help you with the little things, like polishing and stringing all yer basses! Good luck with the CD, Tour, and the New Excel.
Have Fun, Mike, tho....
-
You are a most blessed man to have found such a supportive mate! Hell my ex-fiancee complained about carrying a bass into the gig. Maybe someday but I highly doubt that I will join the ranks of the betrothed.
But today I concentrate on the gig tonight. Bringing 2 excel 5's, accugroove whappo jr, epi ul212 and my f1x-sf2-plx3402 head. Boom in the room baby!
-
DANNO, WOW. If my addition is correct that makes 16. And most definately a Sweet 16 I would have to say!
If my wife ever complains about my new one when it comes, I'll just show some pix of your collection. LOL
Olie
-
Yeah, I'm out of control, no doubt about it. I also have a Hamer 12, Dean B2 5, Stambaugh 4, Ripper, Ravenwest 8, Ovation 4 prototype, MIJ Fender strat w sustainer, 2 Fender Esquires (1 gt and 1 scorpion), American Deluxe strat w emgs, early 80's Mockingbird guit, LP 3 pup classic w emgs, MM petrucci 7, Schector diamond 7 w duncans, Hamer ft w emgs, esp 1000 w emgs and a 5 str banjo. Now what woman would understand that?
btw, the gig went smashingly well, got to jam on Danzig's twist of cain with the drummer from Type O Negative/ Danzig/ 7th Void (Johnny Kelly) and Kenny Hickey of the same fame. Metal mag review to follow I'm told..
Olie by allmeans use me as an example (be sure to include Rami as well ) and after your wife sees the myspace page she may start a prayer circle for me! Tell her that would be great, I need to drop 30 pounds and I'm doing the sound for a Church of the Nazarene Easter service. Those long services are rough!
-
Geeez, Danno, you NEED a full-time assistant to look after all those axe's! Glad the gig went well.
Have fun, Mike tho =]
-
Perhaps a young, petite, attractive, long haired lady with a penchant for older men with music obsessions could assist me? I mean cleaning and changing strings alone, not to mention minor adjustments are just too time consuming for one guy to keep up with! But not in the way Eliot Spitzer dealt with staffing issues.
-
Danno, don't you also have a black T-Bird?
I found a Nikki Sixx Blackbird. It's only control is an ON/OFF switch. It's the most hardcore rock 'n' roll Bass in my collection. Loud, rude and aggressive. It's good for playing Bach too. Each one of those 16th note runs sound like multiple shotgun blasts.
-
I sold it to Steve Zing bassist for Danzig. He is also the singer in Doomtree. My black 4003 went to Tony Senatore. The bird looked cool but I need 5 strings on stage. Doomtree is doing more songs in drop D and low C lately. I hear Nikki is giving Hamer some attention again. I'm still coveting all the series 2's coming out of Santa Rosa plus all your customs Rami. And they were before the rise of Canadian currency!
-
When I had my customs built, the Canadian dollar was worth about 60 cents U.S. After the duties and taxes, I ended up paying more than 50% over the U.S. cost. I purchased my Series II 4 string directly from Alembic at that time too. They were all the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, so I don't think about their cost anymore. Besides, Mica and Susan gave me many discounts and many extra features at no extra charge for which I'm extremely grateful. Unfortunately, I can't afford another Alembic anymore (custom or not), but I think I have a nice sized Bass family at this point.
I have a question about your experience with your T-bird; did you have a loud, directional hum? It's the one thing that really bugs me about it. I keep having to change positions to cancel it out. Did you have that problem too?
Peace,
Rami
-
Yeah, I had to move around while playing to get the silence I wanted. I thought about getting shielding paint but then the bass went on tour and is now out of my hands. Most of my instruments pick up something from lighting, tv etc. But on stage my Alembics with a Shure wireless never seem noisy. I'll ask my friend if he noticed anything on tour.
-
Is it soup yet?
-
BOTH basses had to go back to spray. Right now, they are in the rubout room, getting very dry before rubbing out again. Probably another week before we attempt the rubout again, just to be on the safe side.
-
Otay! Thanks for the update. Could you please send me the wide black strap in the meantime? Put it on the card, then I can get excited over another package from youse guys and gals.Otherwise I may GAS something stupid!
-
Any rubbing going on? The bbc reported today that men should engage in that three times a day to reduce prostate cancer. I think they deliberately waited until after the Pope left to report that.
hmmmmmn heck, prostate issues, heck, prostate issues......
-
Bass frottage.
-
Any news to report?
-
Any chance they will be finished soon? I have some summer dates coming up.
-
Fretless to ship on the 16th. Alas the Essence is still misbehaving.
-
Batting .500 ain't bad Danno!
Enjoy that Excel when it arrives- what's the problem with the Essence?
-
These two have been unruly in the spray booth. Black is difficult because everything shows up and Alembic's standards are very high. I'm told they have set a new record for time for a black finish.
They entered the booth Aug. 2007. 2 bass entah! 1 bass leave!
-
I feel your pain Danno, of course I only had 1 unruly kid. But she'sa behavun' now!
OO
-
LOL- thanks for the laugh Danno. It's been a long day here at work and the '1 bass leave' gave me a much needed laugh.

In the setup room on the 9th:

And all dressed up with somewhere to go today:
It's now safely boxed up and will get out the door on the 16th.
-
Thanks for the pics! Thanks again for your help and continued fruitful relationship for now 22 years since the first special order.
Enjoy your weekend, family and the ever changing weather!
Now for that almost short scale to get its mind right!
-
Very nice Danno! I like how the gold looks on the black. Enjoy!
-
Wow, that's nice. Could it get any more black? It's none more black.
-
Thank you, Black hardware like the stealth bass but a wee bit' o gold gives it a bit o class, don't cha know. The Essence 5 I'm waiting on has chrome hardware.
-
Wow! That shot of the finished bass looks great!
-
Danno,
The newest addition to your Monster collection is, as usual, Stunning!!
Play her in great health, and enjoy!!
BCooool, Mike....
-
Just opened it up at work. Stunning finish and mwah tone unplugged. Beautifully done. Only hiccup is it has a blend knob rather than a selector switch. Ill miss having the off position option. I won't be able to crank it up until about 9:00 p.m.
More news to come......
-
Well, after doing a sound gig for A graduation and getting my gear and my self rained on. (wonder what the damage cost will be on this one!) I'm plugged into my rig at home and the results are wonderful. The folks put in a side jack instead of the usual front one. I really like that. Reduces the rip the front off the bass by the jack syndrome! Great open string sustain. The leds just before the line are going to require a bit of getting used to but they make perfect sense. This baby is going to do wonders for my technique. barre chords, octives, sliding harmonics etc. All need to be refined a bit but hey, I'm up for it. This is a different beast than my 7 fretless which causes me to play in a more classical style (plus its 32 scale). Now for that waskily udder bass to show up when it has learned its lesson!
-
Sounds like a hit Danno. Scale length on this one is 34?
-
Very cool, congrats Danno!
OO
-
Thanks, yes this one is 34 set neck, bridge block, Europa guts, red leds. Body is ash, ph accent and flame maple. May take it out tonight to a free form type Crimso jam in Piermont NY. My friend Bob Susko studied with Fripp so its always way outside the box.
Now..... what should I ask Susan and Mica for next??????
-
Danno, where in Piermont? That's my stompin grounds. Unfortunately, I have rehearsal tonight but I would be interested in hearing a fellow brother play for the next time. Perhaps,I may also get to play there with my band in the future. You can email me at bkravitz@panynj.gov (mailto:bkravitz@panynj.gov) You must know where the Defiant brewery is in Pearl River. If we could get an expression of interest for a East Coast gathering I'm sure they could accomodate us.
-
Lighthouse on the Hudson, 701 Piermont Ave., Piermont, New York.
Nice outdoor bar area overlooking the Hudson River.
-
Any updates on the Essence 5 refinishing non-cooperation, petulant childlike, egocentric, why won't you let me be blue anymore bass?
-
Would it be possible to do the black hardware?
Does it wear off easily or is it as durable as chrome?
Also what would be the last possible moment left to change my mind and make it fretted? I think my mind is playing tricks on me since the lunar eclipse!
-
Black is possible, but chrome is harder. I haven't seen the black wear off easily, but then again, we done far fewer blackend brass than any other plating on hardware.
The last possible moment is now. The neck is ready for the fingerboard. I just talked to Bob and put a note on the neck that it might change to fretted. So the bass won't proceed until I hear from you fretted or fretless. Either one is fine, just tell me what you want.
-
Let's go with the fretless. I think 3 fretted excels and a spoiler should be enough for touring. Also we'll stick with the origional hardware setup. Had a mental hiccup there or was it hormones?
The lined ebony with no inlays will be perfect for the look I've grown to love.
-
Yeah you don't want them speed bumps!
