I thought I had some other pictures, but here's a start:

Oh my.
Thanks Mica. I spent the whole weekend sick and am just starting to feel normal.... now I'm all lightheaded and dizzy again =)
Thanks for the headrush. I absolutely love the flame in the top you guys picked.
*happy customer face*
-
Man that's some high contrast flame!
I know you're chuffed...enjoy!
-
I bet you'll be able to cut thru any mix on demand with that puppy!
that tiger flame is hypnotic
-
Nice top Toby. You're going to be pretty happy sometime soon. Signature electrics?
The flame on the series exploiter in the background looks pretty special too.
graeme
-
Chuffed indeed Charles- as you know, this one's been in the planning stages for awhile.
I agree on the flame top Elwood- it surpasses what was hoping for, much less expecting.
Correct on the signature setup Graeme.
-
Wow!
Looks extremely nice, congrats!
This must be the first BTC Elan I've ever seen (http://club.alembicguitars.com/Images/631/52787.gif)
-
That is one of the best looking tops I've seen on any Alembic, from any type of wood. I can hardly wait to see the rest of it!
Eric
-
FC- glad you checked in. As a fellow Elan fan I was hoping you'd see this.
Thanks Eric- I'm kind of awed by the piece and how well the flame matches up with the mahogany they chose for the body. It will be getting a honey/amber color added, so it should just accentuate that flame when it's all done.
Thanks again for the picture Mica. I know how busy you all are there. Very kind of you to make the time to do this.
-
Is that an ebony stringer in the neck...very classy contrast ...those will be some strong notes.
(...must sell things and order new instruments says the brain...)
-
Yep- a single ebony lam in the neck.
-
I love the Elan body.
-
Congratulations Toby! I'm glad to see that you're getting the custom Elan you've been wanting. I like the look of the P/J setup and you know it'll sound sweet. That flame maple is gorgeous!
-
Thanks Reid- your wineburst Elan was what got me started on my dream and Joey's recent custom Elan pushed me over the edge. I'm looking forward to seeing this one once a bit of the color hits it.

Hey Toby, that's really cool. I know I just about had a cow when I saw Joey's Green Machine the first time; maybe the second and third times, too. Your's is going to look mah-ve-lus when that Amber hits it. I'll be watching!
-
Time to have another cow:

2-3 weeks if all goes as planned.
-
Moo!
Toby, that's -moo- a fantastic looking -moo- Elan you've got -moo- coming your way!
Moo.
Congrats! -moo-
-
The single Ebony lam is a great idea! That along with the pickups, electronics, body style, and that btc flame make this a really unique bass!
-
Mica,
My compliments to everyone there- it's looks amazing.
Toby
Thanks Dave and Reid!!
-
I love that neck, Toby! The pinstripes and the ebony are classy as heck! I bet that thing is gonna sound great!
-
Thanks Charles- I'm sure you understand how I'm feeling right now. The progress shots on your bass probably floored you each time you saw an update (I know they floored me!)- that's what's happening with this one for me. It's all I had hoped for and more.
-
VERY nice! Love that ebony neck lam with the pinstripes. Way cool!
-
I 'borrowed' the single neck lam idea from the Orion that Eric had built (http://club.alembicguitars.com/index.php?topic=7712).
I asked for a 'honey' finish... something a little darker, more amber/orange than the normal amber finish. Looking at the overspray on the neck tape I'd say they hit the ball out of the park on the color.
-
Looking sharp, Toby-I can't wait to see it reach completion.
I love the top and the neck lams.
-
It's getting closer, now it's rubbed out, just patiently waiting for it's turn on the setup bench:

Ooops! This one was from last week:
This is after the final coat of finish is rubbed out and before the bass is buffed.
-
Awesome!! Thanks Mica.
When it's time to ship can you shoot me an email and confirm delivery day? My wife and I have a few busy weeks ahead and I want to make sure it arrives on a day when somebody will be home.
Toby
-
Absolutely! We will always confirm that someone will be home for delivery before we ship. Additionally, the package is marked for the service adult signature only so that they can't be tempted to merely leave it on the doorstep.
-
This is turning out really nice! Very cool combination of features!
-
w00t!
-
Oh man! Looking good Toby!
-
Dave, Charles and Reid,
wOOt indeed!! Getting close now....
-
Any estimates of a finish line for this bad boy Mica?
Thanks in advance =)
-
i like this... i want one!
-
Mica,
Getting close?
Toby

Done:

It's amazing - but you'll find out first hand soon enough.
-
Thanks Mica!! I'll be waiting eagerly on Monday (I conveniently have the day off).
It's awesome- I really appreciate all the updates.
-
What great news, and what a classy looking instrument!
Can't wait for detailed photos!
-
I'll send 'em as soon as I take them Charles =)
-
That's a beautiful bass Toby. Congratulations.
Graeme
-
Thanks Graeme-
Well and truly chuffed would probably be the most appropriate statement at the moment.
-
Beautiful! Congratulations!
Mike
-
Congrats!
Looks like a killer bass (http://club.alembicguitars.com/Images/631/58189.gif)
Looking foreward to see the new entry in the Elan section of the showcase.

-
Thanks Flip and Mike- I'm pretty eager for Monday to roll around.
-
Yowza! That will make a kickin' addition to the Elan section! Congratulations, Toby, that's one gorgeous bass.
Mine may have got you started, but yours is making me want Signature electronics for mine! What goes around comes around, eh?!
-
Reid,
You and your better half helped us find short term health insurance when we arrived back from NZ, the least I could do was cause a bit of GAS!
Toby
-
Mission accomplished! I think I want an ebony laminate, too...
At very least, I want pix!
Enjoy the bass and post 'em when you can.
Reid
-
Tick...
Tock...
-
No kidding Charles!
It's actually a perfect weekend for this. I have a bunch of friends in town for the weekend. Spent all day down at Mission bay at a BBQ and will be at the Chargers game tomorrow with them all.
It sure beats sitting around waiting for Monday!

Brown truck, brown truck, where art thou?
-
They were missing a number from my address.... Delivery will have to wait until Tuesday now. *bah*
-
The eagle has landed.
I now understand the whole pictures don't do it justice comment. Unfreakingbelievable.
Pictures to follow in a few days.....
-
Dude, I hate you had to wait the extra day, but much rock that it's here. Exclamation points are just so inadequate, aren't they?
Enjoy, then share.
I'm happy for you,
Charles
-
Thanks Charles.
I'm blown away- not only is the bass far beyond what I could have ever hoped for, but Mica called twice to makes sure it had arrived and to discuss the bass with me. Alembic rocks!
Pictures will be taken sometime during the week. I'll email you a few biggies when I take them and then post a few in the showcase section.
-
Allright, congrats and have fun!
Also very interested in those biggies ;-)
-
Will do Flip.
I tried to snap some pictures this arvo, but it was already too dark and the flash was washing out the flame on the top. I'll wait for some sunlight tomorrow or Friday.
I'll post some initial impressions in the showcase thread when I start it, but I can tell you that this thing rocks!! Ebony is a must if you ever build a custom.....
-
Congrats on a really nice bass!
Can't wait to see some nice pics.
-
Congrats!! I'm guessing it sounds great; I'm sitting here imagining what that wood combo sounds like.
-
Mica,
I discussed these with Will when the order was placed (or shortly thereafter)- just wanted to make sure that you fine folks knew my preference for this bass.
Many thanks~
-
I've made sure the order states you want hat style knobs.
