I traded my Distillate for a Fender Stu Hamm Urge, and a Gibson SG faded(2009). lt's been great talking with you all, even if most of it was derailed by car talk.
Anyhow..quit taking all the strings off at once on your basses. Would you do that so often if it were a Strad? Take care.
-
1) Why go? Not everyone here owns an Alembic yet/still.
2) The strings don't hold them together; taking them all off hurts nothing.
3) Car talk? I see a lot more beer & bikes!
4) Really? Would you trade an MV Augusta for a CB175 & a Cushman? A Brother Thelonius for a Bud & a Miller?

You'll be back.

Fender Stu Hamm Urge is a nice bass. I have a 4-string version in my stable and it's pretty cool.
Not quite an Alembic, but it'll do some things a little easier (P-Bass, J-Bass tones) than my Alembics.
Very comfortable to play and has intuitive and user-friendly controls.
I modded mine with the new Fender milled brass bridge. Provides a little more mass and improved the sustain.

Folks..I am sorry..but I lied. There was no insane trade. I heard some things about indian rosewood..and became afraid.
About the strings...bend a piece of wood back and forth..it weakens. There is no debate.
A boobs derailment would be better than cars.
-
Well, one of the forum rules says no sexism, so cars would be a safer option.
-
I meant doobs. That was a typo.
-
Doobs berailment? Well, you're not talking about Doob's martingale inequality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doob%27s_martingale_inequality target=_blank), that's for sure.
The martingale mention brings to my mind the grand opening of Jean Rouaud's Les champs d'honneur, C'etait la loi des series en somme, martingale triste dont nous d?couvrions soudain le secret - un secret ?vent? depuis la nuit des temps mais ? chaque fois recouvert et qui, brutalement r?v?l?, mart?le, nous laissait stupides, abrutis de chagrin. Gotta love those lush rhythms.
So there you have it, thread thoroughly derailed.
-
I did have a Fender with a full on Kubicki electronics setup that I was really fond of. The sound of the bass was compressed. Made it easy for slap, I thought.
-
It would appear that the thread was more or less derailed before it even started...
;-)
Nonetheless, I'd like to hear some more about the fear of Indian rosewood!
-
Ah, the bass that got away ...
-
The whole top of my bass could be Indian Rosewood, for all I know.
-
Got away? I gladly sold it to make a couple payments to my Uncle for the Distillate. I guess I could buy it back, and remove the frets. That'd be some bass right there. I do still need a fretless bass.
