Hi Mica,
Just stunningly beautiful already ... the inlay on the 12th fret will be just right between the burl on the head and the body ..
Fascinating to watch it grow .. many thanks.

Brace yourself. Seriously. It's likely you're sitting down, but if not, I strongly advise it.

and if that wasn't enough, the back is sublime:

Wow, what an amazing piece! David congratulations on a very beautiful work in progress. I hope you took Mica's advice and sat down when you viewed the photos. You better be sitting down when you receive it. I cannot wait to see the finished product. I am thinking...masterpiece!

David,
Stanley would be proud
-
WOW!!!
BTW, did the neck lams change? It looks like two purpleheart and one ebony in the pictures at the top, but now it looks like all three are ebony.
-
Sorry - I confused 2 orders on the postings. Those neck lams were for a different bass.
-
the woodgrain is really beautiful. That will be an amazing bass! john
-
Mica,
I was sitting down and still almost fell on the floor .. sorry to take so long to reply, I've been on the road. It is really very, very special. And when Susan works her magic ..
Cheers

Congrads David. Some of my favorite Alembics are those, who for the life of the instrument, can't decide which is more beautiful the front or the back. Should the choice have been reversed or not. I reduce my own insanity by putting them backwards on the stand every once in a while. If this is your first Alembic, your in for a real treat, If it's your 20th.... your in for a real treat. Enjoy.
-
Backwards on the stand; great idea Barry.
-
In the setup room for fretting, and a little more than halfway through finish now:

Hi Mica,
I'll start making plans to come to SF and pick it up in the next few weeks. Any photos of the final, entire, complete, totally intact, ready to play, and amazingly beautiful Tonbo bass?
Cheers
D
-
Wow David, that's an absolute stunning bass !
-
David,
What does the butterfly symbolize... You may had answered this question, but its a beautiful statement what ever it means. Also, do you live in California?

thanks everyone for the nice comments. It is actually a dragonfly, and Susan designed it after a species than is common to Asia where I have lived for the past 20-odd years. 'Tonbo' is Japanese for dragonfly and a name I think sounds like a bass. Dragonflies are also very symbolic in Asian culture ... and i think Susan has captured the movement and color perfectly..

(http://club.alembic.com/Images/631/66662.jpg) here is a photo of the inlay

Here's the completed photo as requested:

Sure is, Play it Healthy David!

It seems like that Tonbo just took off from pond of body. The top grain seems like a ripple to me. Very impressive. Congrats from Japan!
