Title: Steve's Walnut Europa

Going quite well on the build. Here's a look before routing:

And one during routing (got lucky with the timing):

I think my mom may have already told you, but your instrument got lots of attention from Udo when he visited last week. He's writing an article for Bass Professor magazine in Germany, I'll be sure to send you a copy when we receive them.  This week: Steve's bass enters the finish department, then it really starts showing off that flamey figure.

Just a weird thought (one among many...).

Seeing the photo of the CNC in action reminds me of my first visit to the factory. I remember thinking at the time that it would be really cool if when they finally got around to doing mine, they could sweep up a nice assortment of wood chips, and send them to me in a bottle.

In this case, the purpleheart would be stunning; for me, the bits of ebony mixed in with coco bolo and mahogony would have been pretty dramatic.

As it turned out, several months after mine was started, they found a slightly different souvenir for me under a huge pile of sawdust. Still thinking about making it into a backscratcher or something.

Stephen, I love Europas, and being a (wal)nut myself I have to compliment you about your excellent choice of woods. I will be following this one very carefully...

Amen, Wilfred! The Europa is a sweet design. Since most neck-through guys pop for Rogues, this will be a nice change of pace. Wood selection also seems quite nice. Kudos on a good choice, Stephen.

Cheers,

With finish:

I'm afraid that the photo pales compared to the real thing. This wood is still alive.
