The woods all look great. These pictures do not show off the grain as nice as it actually looks. The fine sanding always kills the quilt/flame until the paint hits it. With any luck, I'll be posting some with sealer coats for you by the end of next week.

Holy Cow!!! Wow that far exceeded my expectations on what it would look like. Thanks to the Alembic team for putting up with all my emails and calls, I know that you all are very busy but it means a lot to me to actually see my baby in person. Mica I have a couple of questions. Can I have the jack input mounted on top? And second, what are the main differences between the skylark humbuckers and the ones used in the further and tribute models? Thanks again.

Another little darling as I think Susan would put it. That is an extremely attractive body shape~ I think it's growing on me. I take it that this will have the Skylark electronics package?!?

Yes it will but I am seeing if I could put in the humbuckers that are in the further model. I don't know if they sound any different but I like the square shape better.

Joseph,

Congratulations on the start of your new guitar. I am both excited and jealous at the prospect of Little Bear having a sibling out there. You will be thrilled with the results. As far as the jack location is concerned. I originally wanted it face-mounted as well. However, these bodies are VERY small and there's not much real estate on the top. Even if it were possible to do so, I would recommend against the face mount for purely aesthetic reasons. It's going to get awfully crowded up there and you don't want to detract from what will surely be an exquisite top.

BTW, I like how the shape of the HG Skylark pickups accent the curves of the body & coco bolo on Jon's guitar. The rectangular HG-4 (?) should look attractive against the straight grain of the Flame Maple....

I think you might be right on the top mounted jack. As far as feeling jealous its your fault, you and Susan came up with a awesome new guitar body style.(lol) When I saw your guitar I knew that it was the one for me. I can't wait to see more pics when they get the chance to post them.

Thanks for the kind words. When I first saw the drawings of what they'd come up with, I knew it was the one for me as well.

Joey,
Sorry it's taken me a while to catch up here but by the time you had inquired about a change in the pickup style, the instrument had already been routed. Actually it's for the best, the HGR pickups( Skylark style) looks best with the curvaceousness of the Darlin Guitar. Mica took pictures today and will be posting them later. The guitar now has her contouring, showing off the various body laminations quite nicely and some sealer coats that really make that Quilted Maple pop.

The view of the quilt from the end is very nice!  And Susan's right, the contouring of the body laminations is pretty neat!  This is a great guitar!

What a great eye for wood layout!  I love the chevron-style quilt pattern.  It's nice in playing position, but really stands out in the vertical pic.

It's almost too pretty to play!  Maybe you should get another to play and just leave that one on a stand for people to look at?

Very nice guitar. I don't normally chime in on the guitar threads but I really like this one. I wonder why? Congratulations, you are one lucky fellow.

Wow!!! No worry's about the pickups Susan, I have complete trust in your selections. The top is one of the most sweetest quilt jobs I have seen. Of course since it's my guitar I might be a little biased.(lol) Thanks for the great photo's Mica and keep them coming.

Just one more before I go on vacation:

Until I get back, there won't be much different looking as your guitar get several more coats of spray. I didn't get a picture of the mini dot inlays James did before the fingerboard got taped up for spray, but they do look cool.

congratulations joseph!  it's one of the most beautiful, dramatic-yet-understated instruments i've seen in my first year in the club.  the top and back are spectacular, and the body accents work perfectly with the two substantial purpleheart neck lams

is the fingerboard purpleheart as well?

Thanks guys for all the wonderful comments. No the fingerboard is ebony with small dot inlays. Its wierd that this is my first Alembic, I haven't even played it yet and I am planning on the next one already. Mica I hope you have a great vacation and to all my fellow Alembic brothers, have a happy holiday season.

Hello Joey,

I thought you might appreciate a little Christmas present; I am not as experienced as Mica in taking pictures of instruments, but I think you get the idea. She'll be there waiting when you get back.

Wow!! Beautiful guitar!!
Ever since I saw Jonathan's coco bolo guitar I've been wondering what it would look like in maple. I see that it is amazing. Congratulations and enjoy.

I'll tell you...of all the guitars I ever have owned, currently own, or even have seen, this is by far my favorite shape. I echo Tom Z's sentiments. The petite body lends itself so well to the almost cloud-like quality of that quilted maple. Wait until you play it Joey. If you throw on one of the 4 Moody straps, this thing is as light as a feather. Enjoy!

Jonathan

joey

did you specify custom shaping on your omega?  it seems to be slightly oblate, or maybe it has a touch of heart-shape to it

whatever it is, it works perfectly with the body shape and every other detail to make a very beautiful guitar, one that even a bass player can love!

happy new year
