Zipped through to carving so fast, these are the first pics I've captured:

Still have lots of carving to do, but you get the general idea.
-
Can't wait to see it with some finish on there...
-
The transformation with finish will be shockingly cool!
-
They always are- especially with Buckeye. Every buckeye top I see suddenly becomes my new favorite.
-
Mica,
Thanks for the pictures. I can't wait it see it with finish. From what I can see the wood fits the characteristics we discussed to a tee.
Keith
-
Keith you lied!! You told me no FTC thread. The Vermillion core looks great with the Buckeye! Looking forwad to seeing some finish on it.
-
Adam,
No I didn't. I had asked many months ago to not have an FCT but I suspect it was forgotten as this thread popped up after an e-mail status inquiry. No big deal either way. The important thing is I now have pictures to look at. :-)
Keith
-
Love that Buckeye!
This is going to look fantastic with finish...
Todd
-
Hope you know I'm joking Keith. This is going to be a killer!
-
Keith,
Congratulations on your new addition! Gorgeous!
Your bass is going to be an absolute beauty to watch transition. Thanks for sharing.
Of course it will sound incredible with Series I electronics, very nice choices you've made.
Play it Healthy!
Art
ps: Any thoughts on another NC gathering?
-
It got a little more attention in carving today. Shaped the horns some:

and started the peghead bevel:

Great shots Mica! And a beautiful job as always. Oh, what a gig!
Regards, Art
-
Yes Adam I figured you had your tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Thanks Art. I am looking forward to playing it.
Keith
-
Nice buckeye burl! I'm looking forward to seeing more of this one.
Mike
-
Me too. I love buckeye. Can't wait to see it under some finish.

Just with a sealer coat, you can tell this will be stellar.
-
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
-
UNBELIEVABLE. That truly is a breathtaking top!
Graeme
-
It is looking great. You sure no how to distract someone who should be working at his desk instead of ogling pictures of guitars. ;-)
Keith
-
Amazing Bass
-
Amazing top- that side shot of the sandwich is killer!
-
Very nice,very busy,superb.
-
Any news?
Keith
-
This top is absolutely fantastic!
Waiting for pictures when this bass is ready...
-
Not pictures of the bass, but of the inlays cut out:
These are barn swallows in flight. They aren't arranged as position markers, but rather to evoke the feeling one gets when these little aerialists are swarming around at dusk like fighter pilots. Here's the general plan:
James even managed to get the shapes of the flight feathers cut. I just love these birds!
-
This will be a wonderful inlay!
-
This one will be breath taking when done . The wood contrast , the inlay _ +++++ AWESOME !!!!!!
-
Mica,
Thanks for the update. I can hardly wait to see and play it. My original inspiration for this was the chimney swifts that fly around my house in the summer and the swallows that surrounded the intersections on cool mornings when I lived in Colorado. I think is going capture that quite well.
Keith
-
Awesome!
-
Oh. My.
-
Oh Keith, can I play it? After you of course... That is beautiful!
Play it in the best of health!
Art
-
Boy, that's one heck of a beautiful bass Keith. Congratulations!
Graeme
-
Yippee! Now the interminable wait for UPS to deliver it.
Yes I see the round pickup selector. Should mean no more banged up fingers when I get a little over exuberant with my slapping.
Thanks for the congrats and compliments folks.
Keith
-
well first off, UPS is going to drop it off to my house so i can Break it in for you!........then you'll recieve it within a week or so!
-
Congratulations Keith,
Report back when you can let go of this beauty long enough to type!
Mike
-
Keavin,
I am glad you are looking out for me. ;-)
Will do Mike along with pictures.
Keith
-
Awesome! I'd love to see a full frontal of that fretboard.
-
Incredible!!! Awesome bookmatch to center.
-
In the words of Hank McCoy, a/k/a The Beast of X-Men fame, Oh my stars and garters!
Wow. Outrageous. Beautiful.
Alembic.
-
Keith -
Words cannot describe the beauty that pops out from your new bass. Let us know how pretty she sings. Congrats!
-
I just noticed the wood patterns by the neck pickup and between the bridge and tailpiece almost look like deliberate design choices rather than pure serendipity. Beautiful!
Mike
-
More birds? You got it!
and one up close for fun:
The top wood on this bass is something you can get lost in.
-
This Bass REALLY looks like it could have Metaphysical Power !
-
Amazing sir! Tell the children this is out of bounds and is going with you King Tut style.
-
Thanks for the compliments. Looks like it will be delivered next week.
Just what I've been waiting for, No kids you can't have it as Danno says so..
Keith
-
Id like to take this Bass & Fly away with it.....Birds and all!!!
-
I wanted to suggest bird dropping inlays buuuttt...........
-
I have seen this bass up close personally and I can say it is simply beautiful. Keith also has a better kitchen than I do ... ;-(
Alan
-
It always amazes me how the wood comes to life when finishing is done. Congratulations, Keith!
-
A real beauty Keith!!!
George
-
Thanks to all for their kind comments.
Keith
-
Wow - the top and the birds are going to make this such an amazing series bass. Is it just me or are all the facory to customer instruments absolutely stunning at present - looks like we are going to need two or three featured customs per month for the next few months can't wait...
-
Come on ! That can't be wood, it's granite.
....GORGEOUS....
-
Red like how I love my Salmon...
-
All lined up for flight:
And starting to get dropped in place:
Actually, they are all in now, but I wasn't fast enough with the camera - the fingerboard is all covered with tape and the bass is back in spray for the last few coats of finish.
-
No problem on missing the completed inlays. It will just be that much more of surprise seeing it all together. I guess this means we are in the final stretch with the inlays being complete and the finish being finished.
Keith
-
This is going to be a real beauty! Nice to see you enjoying the anticipation Keith.
All the best,
Art
-
Wow!

Among my favorite FTC threads, having a soft spot for shorties.
This is / will be a stunning bass!
