The backplate shelves are in the picture above. Those will be routed again when the actual backplates are completed and fit to your guitar. Lookin' good!
-
Awesome...you chose Batmans Buckeye!! Saw this piece in the wood bank! I was really torn between this and Froggy Friend! It's gonna be beautiful! Congrats!
-
You recognize it! Ha!
-
Thanks! Best birthday present ever! Stunning!
-
Wow that's gonna be one impressive guitar when finished. Is this going to be a series guitar?
Jazzyvee
-
Batman was posted on the wood bank on my birthday last year; it was meant to be my guitar! Series I
Micro-mangagement alert:
How do I get these knobs?
-
Wow! Wish I would have seen those before! Outstanding!
-
There's 2 wooden knob suppliers that our customers have used. THG Knobs and David King.
Well, we make them too, but since we go all crazy and do a complete finish like we do on the guitars, they are considerably more expensive than the guys that do it every day.
-
This is a fabulous guitar!
-
I really love the motif of the pistol grip upper bout and the dragon claw headstock. I can't stop looking at the pictures!
Please Mica, go flog the crew! Faster, FASTER!
-
I can't wait to see the articulated carving on the headstock; any new pics?
-
The grain pattern on the headstock looks like the coolest Topo map ever. I want to hike there.
-
Very lovely! Congratulations... it's going to be spectacular!
-
Looking good so far, John! That's an amazing piece of wood you chose, and the continous back will be amazing. I hope I was of some help with the knobs; one thing you need to decide on, though...as you can see above, I chose the 'skirted' design. Roger offers different shapes and heights of knobs, so think a bit & decide what is best for you & your playing style. The skirted type are slightly fatter & taller than the standard-issue black knob, but easier to grip (IMO).
I know, it's not easy designing your dream! Best of luck....
Chris
-
Thanks for your input, Chris. I've ordered a set that is 1mm larger in diameter and 1mm shorter than stock. Roger is also rounding the top point on the pointer knobs for me as my Series I guitar that I had in the late '70's provided me with a few wounds. It turns out that Roger made a set of ebony knobs and a switch tip for a custom guitar for me last year. That guitar has a pair of ebony filtertrons and the ebony controls not only look great, but also feel great to operate.
-
Mica, Did it get squirted?
Any pics?
don't make me beg...

You know it did!

Looks pretty cool. Remember, there is a looong wait in spray. It will look pretty much like this until it's all done.
-
Wow, that is really beautiful!
-
please, sir, may I another?
{headstock?}
(I think I pulled a facial muscle; smile may be permanent!)
-
That will have to wait until next week. Everything is wet right now.
-
Oh... and glad you like it!
-
Wow , if one lets the imagination run wild there are so many things to see in this wood.
-
I've dreamed of seeing such a guitar come to fruition for quite some time.... The only thing I pictured different was a reverse headstock, and stinger omega....
Congrats John, this is shaping up to be quite the guitar!!!!
-
A future COTM, for sure. Just when I thought my axe was the bomb, your choice of wood from the bank comes along, and all I can do is drool!
Possibly the finest Buckeye I've ever seen, regardless of builder.....
Chris
-
Thanks Chris, very kind words indeed from someone with such a fine instrument like yours! Nobody does Buckeye like Alembic; they are simply the best in the world.
I thought about a reverse headstock, but I thought it would aggravate my aixelsyd.
-
Jeez, that is a GORGEOUS piece of Buckeye! I hope you like answering questions, becuase any time you take this beast out in public you're going to get a TON of them
Enjoy the process, it may seem long now but trust me it's worth it in the end!
Cheers,
Todd

Any more pics? headstock? custom logo? please?

That picture should be standard for all FTC threads.
-
Just darling! Anyway, with everyone feeling MUCH better now, I can finally start catching up on some FTC pictures. The backplates and humx pickup are getting along in spray:

and the Ebony box pickups are ready for their oil finish:

And an in-process shot of making the shells, with a few extry just in case:

The shells look cool!
-
THAT'S FREAKIN GORGEOUS!!! this is going to be one phenominal instrument!!!
~Taylor
-
JZ, depends on what kind of snake you are talking about. Anyway, what is great and humbling about these links is that no matter if, or how many Alembics you have, there are so many other awesome ones out there. I marvel at the creativity of the customers and Alembic to create these mind blowing works of art. Bless all of you. Wish I could gobble them all up, but it is important to share! This thread and others like it make my day.
-
Thats very cool!

Beautiful guitar!
-
Thanks Dave! It is really wonderful. I had a 77 series 1 guitar and an 81 or 2 Electrum. As great as those instruments were, this exceeds all expectation. The way it FEELS is incredible. Alembic just keeps getting better.
-
Is that the cutout piece from your omega John? That really is a very cool gift. I'd have loved the cutout from my heart omega.
Graeme
-
Yes, Graeme, it is. Since I don't have the guitar yet, I have the cut out on my desk. I need to tap it every now and again to listen to the wonderful tone of the wood recipe.
-
That piece of maple (I think) wasn't an optical illusion to which I think JZ will attest. When I visited the mothership a few years ago Mica showed me a piece and it's got indentations not only all over the surface but straight on through its core. don;t know what causes the figuring though it's awfully beautiful on a guitar.
-
I think it would be cool to do a headstock from that piece of quilted maple, but have some of the rough edge show through.
-
This is going to be an awesome guitar.

WoW! That's unbelievable. When I saw it in the flesh I knew it was going to turn out great but I couldn't have guessed it would be so fantastic!
Graeme
-
Absolutely beautiful! Congrats!
-
Wow! The wood really works well with the control knobs and pickup covers. Congratulations.
-
Congrats!! Spectacular!!
-
Stunning! It's the most handsome triple O I've seen.
-
In my house. The journey ends, or is it just beginning?(http://club.alembic.com/Images/631/180701.jpg)
-
The journey is just beginning. I've had mine for well over five years now, and the journey continuously unfolds into new places to be explored. Enjoy!
-
Superb! Congratulations, John, I will assume you are feeling the same emotions that I did 10 years ago. It's a shame we don't live closer; what a sight we would be on stage... :-)
Enjoy, and get ready for the comments/compliments when you take her out, it's actually quite fun!
Chris
-
Thanks Chris. That would be mind blowing; two Buckeye Burl Triple Omega Alembics in the same place at the same time!
Ok, one more picture.

I am Batman.
-
Sweet Mother of Pearl! A perfect bookmatch to center front & back....Holy Shinola. Just superb...
Just a word of advice, my friend; when you're out & about with her, watch her like a hawk, as a mother would watch a child. There are predators out there looking for an opportunity. That being said, I do not let my investment 'sit at home'; she has attained 'main bass' stature and I enjoy her as much as I can on stage, but remain vigilant during the process. Just my .02...
Be safe in your travels, Batman, Commissioner Gordon would be proud.....
Chris
-
John, that looks utterly amazing; my favourite body shape combined with my favourite wood. One question; are you really big, or is the body downsized from what they'd use on a bass? I'm 6ft and I'd swear my Triple O bass looked a lot bigger than that on me.
-
I am 8 feet tall and weigh 450lbs.
(Not really. I am a large man, but the guitar is a little wider than a Les Paul in the lower bouts, but otherwise about the same as a strat. And, yes Shaun, I have wanted a triple omega ever since I saw Johnny Winter's guitar in 1974.)
-
This build is developing into one heck of a fine guitar. The Dragons claw headstock is a smart tasteful move, something I think would also look great on an Elan Europa or Rogue.
Jazzyvee
-
Oh, wowzie wow! Look at those backplates!!!!!

Ay, carumba, what a beauty. That burl on the front looks like an owl swooping out of the sky. Yum.

The Greek symbol caduceus (two snakes wrapped around a winged staff) is commonly associated with the messenger of the gods. In Roman iconography the caduceus was often depicted being carried in the left hand of Mercury, guide of the dead and protector of merchants, shepherds, gamblers, liars, and thieves. The caduceus is also a recognized symbol of commerce and negotiation, two realms in which balanced exchange and reciprocity are recognized as ideals. This association is ancient, and consistent from the Classical period to modern times. The caduceus is also used as a symbol representing printing, again by extension of the attributes of Mercury (in this case associated with writing and eloquence).

Dark Star Approaches(red) with giant Nibiru, its 7th Planet
(http://club.alembic.com/Images/631/132457.jpg)
As Nibiru cuts through our solar system in retrograde motion to the other planets it performs its various duties such as displacing or replacing planets and causing general havoc in the process. Its passage is momentous but short taking only a few weeks or months at most, after which it dissapears from view. It is fiery red in color with a debris-filled tail, and circling it are a number of moons which it sometimes uses as weapons to pound other planets. Nibiru or its moons were responsible for such feats as the destruction of Maldek and other planets which are now asteroid belts; the craters or surface scars on the Moon or planets of our solar system, as well as their varying axial tilts and orbits; the sinking of Atlantis and Noah's Flood; and God knows what else. It is the physical link or "ferry" between our solar system and the dark star system. Nibiru, the Winged(or Horned) Disc

Please send me my guitar; I've clearly lost my mind.

-
Mica: Can you send me some cutoffs from this instrument for the knobs?
Roger
-
I'll check, but it's not likely that I can locate the exact scrap since it's been a while since we did the assembly. Let you know what I find.

Saw this instrument at the shop. My wife's favourite top. It certainly is incredible in the flesh.
Graeme
p.s. sorry I didn't reply to your email john. My mailbox has filled while I've been over here and I'll not be able to empty it till I get back to work.
-
Thanks Graeme, thats nice to hear.
Mica just sent me the custom logo art. Erik added a fine embellishment.
-
Great custom logo! And I'm guessing Erik will only be able to work part time in the art department while he's finishing up school; so Mica and Susan are probably going to be doing at least some of the work until then.
-
Oh he'll be an FTE before you know it. Mad skillz run through that entire family.
That is one of the coolest logos ever !
-
And here's the first part:

This seems about right....

for an Alembic.
-
Well, I called 866-VUITTON and found out you have to go to a Louis Vuitton store to place a special order. The case for Keith Richards was a special order, but I wonder if he had to go into a store?
I'm not going to be near an LV store anytime soon, so if you venture into one, you can ask about the special order process.
-
Yep, I can just see Keef walking into the Louis Vuitton store on Rodeo Drive!
-
Oh, they did tell me a special order could take 8 months or more.
-
OK, how about your stock case with fake crocodile tolex and a royal purple mouse hide inside?
-
But clearly you'd want the Royal Purple mouse hide to be sourced from mice caught by the Queen's cat at Buckingham Palace right!
Jazzyvee
-
Or maybe the guiness factory!
-
Hi Mica, I spoke to Susan on Saturday about switching to series II electronics. Please let me know if this can be done. If so, i would like the master volume control location to be similar to a strat. I like to adjust volume with my little finger. Also, I want to order custom knobs and until I know about I/II status, I don't know what to order. I emailed a custom logo to Susan. if the Skyway trem could have a 5 arm, and a larger diameter I would be pleased.
Thanks for your attention!
John
-
I'll be looking at the control layout for you along with the side jacks. The drilling for the controls is on hold, and I've got a message over to Rick at Skyway regarding the tremolo.
-
OK, to start the control layout, is this about where you want the master volume to land?
-
Hard to tell without the bridge.. Maybe to the left 1 or 2 mm and down 1 or 2 mm. Can you photoshop a bridge on it?
Thanks! Truly Tremendous TriO
-
No, wait.. I think you nailed it (bad figure of speech)
-
Here's the control layout:
The knobs are just placed by eye in the picture for a rough idea. When we drill, we'll actually measure and keep things parallel sorta like this:
See how bad my eyes are?
-
Awesome Buckeye Burl top! What will the back have? Inquiring minds want to know.
-
Check the build record - I think you will like what you see!
-
(http://club.alembic.com/Images/631/129675.jpg)
-
I saw this at the factory on my visit. It's a beauty.
Jazzyvee
-
There are letters and numbers in the pickup routes. What is the meaning?
-
Given its proximity to my instrument's assignment from late last year, I'd guess 14877 will be this one's serial number.
-
Yes, that sounds right. But what is the other one? It looks like it could be either JZS or JRS. What it is?
-
The number is the work order number: they don't get a serial number until they're completed. Only a guess, but the letters might be your initials? (judging by your screen name)
-
I think the initials are the person who carved the body.
-
Anybody know who did the carving? What are the letters? It's difficult to read in these pictures. Please, any help?
-
Jack carved your guitar.
Got the Skyway! So now I can confirm the placement of the controls in context with the trem.
-
Or maybe this?
-
WOW....!!! how much?
-
Cool looking case. I have absolutely no idea about the price of such an object, but I emailed the company, so we should find out eventually.
-
-
I got a very nice reply from Igarashi at Aero Concept. The guitar case is a display item only, but they will make a custom order.
The price is about 1,500,000 Yen, plus they said they need the guitar to fit it and maybe 2 or 3 visits to their factory to check details. Not sure about the total time to manufacture.
Now you know.
-
Wow!
It's COOOOOL !!!
I didn't know the maker Aero Concept.
But, 1,500,000 JPY = 19,500 USD !
I will order new Series 2, if I have such money !
Eiji
-
Please add a nearest neighbor buckeye Truss Rod Cover.
(Or however you do it)
OK, I promise not to change anything else. No, really, I swear!
-
This one we can't do - the top is already glued on. We can still make a wooden plate, but it won't exactly match.
-
No worries... Do whatever you think will look best. You guys are the maestros!
-
This is a really elegant solution. I would like to make this change as well.
JZS
-
Sorry, this guitar got routed last week, so the face-mounted jacks are already there.
-
Ooops! Though it was technically routed Bob reports only the pickup selector is drilled through. So while the pickups are routed, it looks like we can change to side mounted jacks. Let me check the details and get back with you.
It's wet in the spray booth at the moment, or I'd take care of it now for you.
-
Thanks!!!
