Hey Danny Great to talk with you today - and we're all happy about your record deal! Here's the picture of your next Excel before the black:

Just so you know what's underneath!
-
Yes! and only the chosen few will know of it's secrets! Dis' un gonna be real punchy, I gurantee!
Danno, bless you all.
BTW, did you choose Bedevere or the Black Knight?
-
BTW, are the led's already wired? I can't detect them under the tape. Excuse my anxiety mingeled with my delight at your speed on this one. Thanks also to Susan for the bridge block suggestion.
Danno

Danno,
That's really beautiful flame on this baby. Will it be covered in black?
-
Absolutely! the top is for the sonic treatment. My last custom was a solid mahog body, no top. Mica and Susan always pick out great wood for me. This one will have 2 custom inlays, led's and Distillate guts.

Blackened now:

and ready for the front inlay.
-
Nasty!
-
Bless you dear heart! A little bit of gore with the swan perhaps?
BTW, I spoke with Trip at NAMM and exchanged Alembic compliments. He was working GLOCKENKLANG. If you and Susan flushed a bit, it might have been all the kind words from Anaheim.
oh, (selector not pan right?)
Danno
-
Yes - it's Spoiler with bass and treble switches. It's hard to see amidst the sea of black, but the hole closest to the bridgeblock is the pickup selector.
The gore will be good - right up Mike's alley for sure. The light blue he added around the 12th fret inlay is subtle, but you can see it up close (sorry it's all taped up).
Trip is so cool - did he have his new 5-string fretless in Walnut with him?
-
Alas no, he raved about it and spoke so highly as I mentioned. The booth was also for Vignier (sp?)French basses and another German maker I can't recall. I did my best fiddley-fiddley playing. This baby will go on the Warped Tour along with Kay. I always miss seeing an Alembic at NAMM. (sniff,) but I know that there is little payback for the expense.
Danno
-
Vigier -not vignier although the allusion to the wine is great- is French.
And ...they are expensive here too!!!
Trip on Glockenklang huh?!?!
V??????????????-?ry clean I guess??
PTBO
A Blonde tranformed in black ...great!! Nice bass. All the best touring!!!
-
The wine is Viognier, at least that's the name of the grape. Of French origin, it is also grown in Sonoma, the home wine region of Alembic.
Danno, you ever think of having one of these done in a Chromalusion black? I bet that would have really cool stage presence.
-
My nearly black Excel shows up very purpley. I just love black. I have a black Ric. Thunderbird, Spoiler, Excel, LP Classic and a Strat. I have pleanty of very nice clear wood finishes in Koa, flame maple, quilted maple, flame walnut, and cocobolo. I'd have to see what the chromalusion black looks like before I'd consider it. If the money comes in I'm tempted to get an Alembird. Most likely in black or almost black but less purpley. Hey Mica, the shirts are in the mail on Thursday!
Danno

Any scans ready yet?
-
Danno:
Congrats on another(!) new one. You da man!
Cheers,
Kevin
P.S., I think Vigier is Geezer Butler's current axe of choice
-
Yep, Geezer, Roger Glover among others. This bass is another touring one. The trick is to send checks every few months to Santa Rosa. Lessens the blow a bit.
Danno
-
I have a gig in SF on 4/8. Will it be ready?
hope all are well
Danno
-
Danno:
Where are you going to be in S.F.?
Bill, tgo
-
I have a string of gigs for that week. Hollywood, San Diego, SF, San Diemas, when I get details I'll post them in the gigs section.
Danno
-
The gigs are being rescheduled for the last week in April folks.
Any news on the inlay yet?
Danno
-
Hey Danno,
Did you guys get on the Warped Tour?
John
-
I'm told we have 4 dates TBA. Many irons in the fire.
Can't sleep.......... clowns will eat me..........
Danno
-
Danno,
It's okay, just avoid the insane posse and stay ahead of them. Those clowns can't be getting good mileage out of that overloaded Mini-Cooper. And avoid the seltzer bottle.
Mike
-
Amen to that!!

Here's the simplified rendition of the coat of arms:
If you like the general idea, I'll whip up a fabulous mock up with materials.
-
Mica, sent you an email with some ideas.
Also, since the top banner won't be used, that space can be utilized by increasing the size of the birds. (if possible)
Danno
-
why a duck?
:-)
cool eagle...
a little morbid? lol
is that disco duck?
-
Looking at their expressions, perhaps the birds are actually about to get amorous and he's sprinking some oil (lemon oil?) on her as a warm-up. nyuk, nyuk.
Danno: I'll bet this is going to look pretty special when it is done. How about replacing the duck with a clown? lol
Bill, tgo
-
Well, theres the rub you see. It's supposed to be a swan having it's innerds ripped out by a magestic eagle that is looking at it menacingly. It's my family crest you see and it suits me down to the ground. It's translated from old Irish as war-like and fighter. So if it turns out like a duck, that would be inappropriate.
Danno
-
i get it now
no offense sir to your lineage
i would make the swans wings more appropriate
or a longer neck..
or get gross !
since you are removing the top part
have the eagle sitting in flight over the swan and the poor swan shittin a pickle- it might give you more room to make the swan more swan like,,,?
hey my help is free! lol
-
Danno:
Howzabout putting a football helmet on the bottom bird - it can then be Lynn Swan! (O.K., I hear the moans. Give me a break, it's early in the morning and I'm just waking up).
Bill, tgo
-
Danno-
Do you have photos of other interpretations of the crest? It sounds impressive!
Just a couple impressions I picked up from reading the few messages on this topic:
Note that Mica said it was the simplified rendition. It may be a bit too simple in that it has kind of a cartoony feel to it. We know from experience that Alembic will use natural materials to create texture. The result will, without doubt, be impressive.
By Danno's most recent description, it sounds like he is looking for something more realistic. You don't often think majestic when you look at a caricature.
From the too-much-information department:
I'd say my initial identification would have been to say it was an eagle on a goose. Swans are large and impressive creatures in their own right. They typically have a wingspan similar to that of the largest eagles and would outweigh them by as much as 50%. If we're talking about typical adult birds, Ireland as the location would suggest a 10-15 lb Golden Eagle on a 15-25 lb Mute Swan. There's a couple species of swan that migrate through Ireland for parts of the year, the smallest of which (Bewick's) runs to be about the same size as the eagle.
By the way, Golden Eagles disappeared from Ireland about 100 years ago and there has been work going on over the past five years to reintroduce them.
You're probably not looking for that much information or realism, though...
Hope it comes together for you

It could be an African swan!
Oh, yeah, an African swan maybe, but not a European swan. That's my point.
Oh, yeah, I agree with that.
But then of course a-- African swans are non-migratory.
Oh, yeah...
-
Yes,
but what is the *airspeed* of an unladen swan?
Brad
-
there he is- mr 2 cents,,,,
-
African or European?
-
With or without coconuts attached?
-
A swan couldn't carry a coconut!
Hmmm. Coco Bolo, though...
Brad
-
Ah, but two could.
Would that qualify as a double neck?

This thread is going to the birds!

Any update on the artwork? Almost 2 months since the last sketch.
-
Since I cancelled the inlay (thanks again), any idea when it can ship?
Danno

Shipping Monday I'm told.
