This is a great combination of woods!
-
thanks mica for the photos! yeah this bass has been a long time coming for me. im stoked to see it come alive!!
-
Well hey now - !
That body shape looks similar to my Crown of Creation.
I really like the rosewood top - that's going to look scary awesome when it's done.
-
hey thanks man.
i originally was inspired by those older alembics, in particular john mcvie's #27 bass.
so its a short scale big body. this one will have series II electronics but will retain some very 70's accoutrements
-
Yes, that is a neat shape, and the rosewood color and grain look great. What kind of finish do you have planned for the body, and what is the center wood in the neck? Very nice!
-
hey rv
the center neck wood is walnut, followed by birch, then mahogany.
originally, i wanted an oil finish like the old days, but susan had pointed that a modern poly finish would protect the wood better, esp from small dings and whatnots.
-
I am exited to see this Bass take shape . I will be watching with great delight . I own both oil finish and modern poly finish instruments . I whole heartedly agree with what Susan has pointed out to you . That's the way to go .

Hi Jimy !
Your project Rumors is started here !?
The wood choice is nice, just like Ying Yang with McVie's maple one.
What about the special circuit ?
I am very intersted in the progress.

YES - Jimy went even more old-school than me! Well done!
-
Hi eiji! Yes this is indeed the rumours bass
I was telling you a while ago.
It is here now.
Nice one on the ying yang relationship, that was kind of what I was thinking.
The electronics in this is going to be Series 2, no vintage circuits on this bass. I wanted it to have all the sounds past, present, and future. The vibe of the bass is definitely going to have the early older Alembic vibe but with a twist!
Glad you are checking this out guys! I appreciate this!!

I am curious about pictures #2 and #3... was there a decision to reduce the size by cutting a 1/4 or so off the perimeter of the body? Weight savings? Sorry to be nose-y, just a step I haven't seen before.
Love the way this one is turning out! Johnny-Mac would be proud.

Rough size to final template size, nothin' fancy there.
