Switching my setup to preamp/power amp. I'm looking at either a used CA9 or a used QSC 2450. I used to run a Crest 4001 back in the day. I love Crest amps, but I'm also wondering about QSC. I like to feel what I play as much as I hear it. . My speaker setup is a Mesa 4x10 with a Mesa 1x15 when needed.

I recently switched from the QSC 2450 to the QSC PLX 1804 only because the PLX is so much lighter. I'm not the tech-type that can tell you every thing about the QSC's but I will tell you that you'll definitely feel what you're playing and either power amp will provide all the oomph that you need!

The QSC 2540 is a good amp if you don't mind the weight. It has a good reputation in the sound reinforcement world for driving subs. I don't see any reason it should not perform to your expectations.

I have a 2402 which has been a great power amp with the f1-x and the same cans you have.

I'm like you...the Crest CA series is the bomb. I use 2-CA9's, and 2-CA12's for our PA (tri-amped), and there is NOTHING as good as that massive transformer for controlling bass. I'll admit they are heavy, but if you want the BEST sound, don't compromise! Heck, if you are gonna compromise, why did you buy an ALEMBIC??

The Crest gets my vote as well .

I love the way Crest amps sound, but I sold my CA9 in favor of first a Crown XTi4000, which was OK but then got a QSC CX1202v (install version of a Powerlight PL236), which has been great. Much lighter than the Crest and has 700 wpc into 8 ohms at .05% THD at full bandwidth. I don't miss the Crest.
