Title: 3-way Q retrofit
Post by: crgaston on April 18, 2006, 07:05:20 PM
Has anyone had a 3-way Q switch retrofitted to a Rogue or Signature?  Must the bass go back to Alembic, or can it be done by the user?  Cost?

Thanks,
Charles

You can easily disconnect the pickup leads, dismount the electronics and send just the circuit board (with pots, switches and jack attached) to Alembic - no need to send the entire instrument.

Hoping you'll have an easier task than I did - a previous owner of my Spoiler must have used LockTite on the screws that tighten the knobs. I had to jigsaw my way through some unyielding plastic - while the knobs were still mounted - aaaarrrrgh. Just glad it was worth it.

Are you going for the 0/3/6 dB option?

Thanks, Adriaan!

0/3/6 would be my preference.  I have not actually contacted Alembic about it yet.  What was the turnaround time like?

Just a matter of days spent in the mail, plus a couple of days in the shop - ask them if they can schedule the job ahead of time, so you could send over the electronics just a few days before that.

If you're outside of the USA, make sure you declare the product going out of the country - when the package was returned, I ended up paying 25% import duties on the value stated by Alembic, and customs just couldn't be convinced otherwise.

I've been told that if you send stuff not by airmail, then there is less chance of customs interfering.
