Post by: mnewman on April 30, 2003, 09:41:21 AM
This is my version of a small standard 70's template single cut-away Alembic.Details include:  ebony top, chrome hardware, side LEDs,Anniversary electronics and body/neck to be based on Stanley's brown bass/Myrtle core, maghogany neck with walnut and beech stringers. The bigsby is not included,it was just part of the photo I used to comp up my idea.(http://club.alembic.com/Images/402/4554.jpg)

Were Bigbys ever an option on Alembic guitars? I recently saw a Series 1 on ebay with one, which initially shocked me (I am not a big fan of any tremlo systems).

i think people put them on as an aftermarket modification a la John Entwistle.

as an afterthought, i think the design might look more uniform if the top bout was shorter. just an idea

Yeah, there were about ten guitars and basses I can think of that had the Bigsby installed at the factory. Nearly all of them were later removed. I thought all the basses had them removed until I saw the Sotheby's auction. That's gotta be the last one out there.

Matt's more recent drawing is with the upper body half compressed and a little smaller. The original idea of the shape was to make the upper non-cutaway side look like the bottom of the Small Standard body shape.

Both Matt and I thought the back of this design looks more amazing than the front. Hey, maybe we should do something where we incorporate the scooped out look of the back to the upper body half, a little more sculptured perhaps?

mica, are you suggesting a scoop on the top upper bout?  that could be cool.  Has there ever been an alembic with a tummy carve or other sort of scooping that exposes the body laminates in such a way?
