Title: An Alembic As a Heavenly Vessel?!?
Post by: pace on July 27, 2004, 04:48:16 PM
I've been giving this some thought lately & figured it might be an interesting idea... Im curious to see what y'all think.

In passing, some people prefer to have their ashes spread on a scenic beach or mountain range... Others end up in some tacky urn on the mantle... I was trying to think of a way which would allow one to continue to partake in, if not help create music.... The idea of having your ashes placed in an instrument came to mind. Either underneath an inlay like the one's we've been seeing on Tributes lately, or in a hollow chamber in the upper bout....

What do you think?

One of the things that sparked the thought was a set of 'family heirloom' pieces that they were starting on at the factory. Something like this I would hope would stay in the circle of family / friends & not end up on Ebay....

Anyone ever see the movie The Red Violin?  It's a great movie!  This particular violin gets it's unique tone from it's unusual lacquer.  When his wife died, the violin's maker mixed some of her blood into the lacquer and then applied it to the violin.  So put that in your will.  Have your blood sent to Santa Rosa, and applied to a prepaid custom!

Dave, I can't believe you mentioned that movie.  The Red Violin was the first thing I thought of when I read this thread.  The second thing was Keavin's Rest in Bass
