Title: Different Tuning Keys ??
Post by: rebelchile on December 19, 2008, 10:43:45 PM
Here is something strange, I saw John McVie on VH1 classics tonight with Fleetwood Mac, he was playing what looked like either a 4 string Rogue or a 4 string Orion...but the tuning keys and the headstock were, from what I could tell, different than what the factory offered, or, offers, unless they were a custom build, just for that bass. The keys looked like the old fender chrome keys and the end of the headstock looked like a classic head. You guys tell me if I am wrong, but it was a beautiful bass and, if my eyes didn't decieve me I'm almost sure that was an Alembic emblem at the top???

Alembic will slap on any keys you request.  For example, Woody, my custom Further has Sperzel locking tuners per my request.

Years ago (like, 30) a Strings and Things in Memphis advertisement had an Alembic with large Schaller tuners instead of the small ones that were typical of the day (late '70s).  It's the only Alembic bass I've seen with large tuners, and may be the bass you saw.
