for an alembic! man does anyone have an oppourtunity for me to get one? im 17 and dont have a lot of money but i would trade everything in my posession just to own one! ill use the alembic as my cloths!!!
-
preferably a stanley clarke model but it doesnt matter much to me
-
Steven, Welcome to the Club!
How long have you been playing bass? Good luck in your search. Here are a few tips- look in the For Sale section of the Club, here- people are always selling and trading Alembics, there, which is how I ended up with my dream bass- a Series II Six String Bass!!!
Another suggestion is ebay, bass central, planet bass, and Alembic themselves- you never know what they might have, hanging around in the shop!
Most likely, you're not going to be able to score a Stanley Clarke model for very cheap, but you probably could score a Distillate (very like a SC model in shape, scale, basic features) for far less (unless it's a super custom Distillate!).
Also there are Persuaders, Spoilers, Epics, Orions, Essences, and tons of other good used Alembics out there.
Here's another thing to check out that might help in your search- it's called site mash, for Craig's List, and will allow you to search the entire USA & Canada far more quickly:
http://www2.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi?cat=mus&itm=alembic&loc=XCA&fil=&ys=&ye=&ps=&pe=&pgs=50&submit=++++go++++ (http://www2.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi?cat=mus&itm=alembic&loc=XCA&fil=&ys=&ye=&ps=&pe=&pgs=50&submit=++++go++++)
Good luck in your search, and let us all know your progress, from time to time!!!
Peace;)
Frank
ps- check out my dream Alembic in the Showcase section under Series II, Otisduo 95 9100 Six String

Brian from the Low End definitely scores some nice Alembics, from time to time- so check him out, too!
Peace;)

Steve,
Here's one of the best prices I've seen, lately, especially for what you're getting. Alot of Club Members really speak highly of the Spoilers and Alembic FX1's. Here's the link:
http://bend.en.craigslist.org/msg/1547610767.html (http://bend.en.craigslist.org/msg/1547610767.html)
Check it out!
$1500 for the Spoiler (4 string neck thru Alembic) or $1800 for both the bass & FX1.
Peace;)

thats actually a persuader, does not have a pickup selector or a q-switch, still a good deal though
~Taylor
p.s.- you are the only other person i've seen in there teens on here(i'm 17 also)
-
good deal if your getting the package, seems a tad overpriced for a persuader imho
~Taylor
-
Steve,
Here's another place worth looking:
http://www.bassnw.com/usedbass.htm (http://www.bassnw.com/usedbass.htm)
There are several nice Alembics on there- they look like they're priced pretty fair, too.
Peace;)

Thanks for all your help. And i have been playing for almost three years now addicted to playing everyday. I know i probably dont deserve an alembic but tha doesnt mean i cant appreciate them right? I got into alembics when i found out one of my idols used one and have been in love with them ever since i discovered the name :D
I know i will get one in my lifetime nomatter what im just a little impatient especially seeing all these perfect ones being made recently
-
Get a job. You can earn enough in a summer to buy a used one. When I was your age I did exactly that to pay for my musical instruments, amps, etc... I started working part time when I was 15 years old to start funding my musical adventures.
-
might i ask who the artist is? for me it was when i was watching a Jason Newsted bass solo and noticed that his bass had a crap load of knobs and switches, did a little research and found Alembic, been chyming in on here ever since

-
yea i really have been trying to find a job. but i live in a pretty crowded city and being 17 with no experience and still in highschool lowers my chances horribly but i am trying haha. i do have two other instruments like a trumpet and flute that would definately help me towards it. does anyone know the best way to sell that though? im thinking cragslist, cause idk if a music shop would give me a good price...?
and the bass player is Armistead Burwell Smith IV from a band Pinback. i always wondered how his bass sounded so sick and then when i saw it i was even more impressed and became fascinated.
-
What is the manufacturer of the Trumpet ? Don't sell your stuff too cheap. What kind of condition is it in ? I have been a Trumpet player since I was 10 and a Bass player since I was 16.
-
its a yamaha...the flute is a selmer bundy. do you have any idea how much its worth? its pretty much in mint condition i dont even think there is a scratch on it.
i looked up the serial number for the flute and it was made in 1956 idk if that adds any value?? its in pretty good condition too there is only one blemish on it. as far as the trumpet goes im not really sure i cant find a serial number search for that i think its just a beginner one though
-
Yamaha Brass instruments usually are decent in quality, even the student models are decent. The Yamaha top of the line ZENO Trumpets sell for over $2,000 new. There are identifying numbers and letters some where on the horn tell will reveal it's identity. When you find out look up completed sales on ebay, The same for the Flute or any other item that you want to sell. Ebay has become a good indication of what price the market will bare( what used prices that people are paying for something in the current economy)
VERY IMPORTANT___ GET PERMISSION FROM YOUR PARENTS BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THIS ! Please Talk to them about it first .
Good luck with your musical pursuits

there is a link for a flute that is exactly the same but maybe like 10 years older...do you think its worth that much? it looks exactly the same as the one in the add same case and everything
-
I don't know flutes...but I see the seller hasn't sold any of the other woodwinds he had listed so I imagine that he is asking more than what that flute is worth.
A search of completed listings for selmer bundy flutes show most sales at under 100 dollars.
completed listings (http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.html?LH_Complete=1&_nkw=selmer%20bundy%20flute&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283&_rdc=1 target=_blank)

There have been several incarnations of SELMER. Selmer Bundy was for the most part a good student instrument. The HIGH END Selmer would be SELMER PARIS ____ Yes made in France! I have a few Selmer Paris Trumpets . Louis Armstrong favoured the Selmer Paris Trumpet through much of his life time (model 19A balanced). Now there is also SELMER U.S.A. BACH , it is very popular; which I also like .

Haha oh well i guess i can still just dream...for now

Steven, keep your eye on this one for the next couple days, some extra stuff has been done to it, but that can be made to look real nice anyways http://cgi.ebay.com/ALEMBIC-BASS-4_W0QQitemZ320477369766QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item4a9df095a6 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ALEMBIC-BASS-4_W0QQitemZ320477369766QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item4a9df095a6)

hahah it went up past 800 in a night i think i had a chance around 350 but idk about 8.
thanks thought that was a really good deal i was excited for it!
-
They rarely go for 800. This is an early one (1983) with the koa body wings. Needs some love and attention, but as it appears nothing major.
-
Never give up hope. I was 18 years old when I purchased my first Alembic Series 1 at San Francisco Guitar Centers. It taken me months to pay it off. I put $300.00 down on it, and the store agent put the bass in the back room, and slapped a sold tag on it. Sometimes I would enter the store with money, and I would play it for a while, and other times I would just play it and leave the store. But on the day I had the last payment, I was so excited, and to this day, I loved every moment of that purchase.
So, my best of luck goes to you, and I would love to read your fish tales, on how you caught that great MARLIN!
Peace and Love,
Hal-

That's a cool story Hal.

And... as Phil Collins once said.. Something happened in the way to heaven, since 8teven's profile has been deleted from the system. Seems to me like the I'd do anything statement does not involves perseverance...
-
His account may have been deleted by a bug in the software. I'll post a quick note on the AB&G page.
-
yea it did get deleted but i made a new one because i DO have intentions on persuing an alembic! thats funny though comparing alembics to heaven hahah its kinda true

Comparing Alembics to Heaven... What's the difference? ;)
