Are you wanting to build or buy?  I have a Maple-topped SC... I wouldn't necessarily call it bright, but it has a mahogany body.  I wonder if a Maple or Ash body might brighten the tone.  Most of your tone (on a neck-through instrument) comes from the neck, so I'm not sure what effect it might have.  I had a Carvin LB76 (also neck-through) built with a Maple/Walnut neck, Ash body, and Maple top.  It's brighter than any of my Alembics, but (of course) the electronics are totally different.

Welcome to the forum Hutch. For one minute I was thinking 'Hutch' Hutchinson!!! Then I realised there's no mention of Bonnie Raitt on your profile. I bet you get that alot ;-)
