Title: (x) Info Request 92K7321
Post by: ajdover on November 09, 2005, 07:28:46 PM
Mica/Val,

Info request on my new Essence, SN 92K7321.  Just got it today, and a pic is posted in the Introductions section.  It's freakin' awesome!  I cannot get over how great it plays, sounds, and looks.  I wasn't planning buying a bass today, but I went into the music store and there it was.  Picked it up, plugged it in, and then it was all over but the crying.  This makes Alembic #4 for me!

Thanks,

Alan

Rich,

Thanks.  I just had to get it.  From the minute I sat down with it it just felt so right.  I can't describe it.  It just fit.  The only bass I've ever had that experience with initially was my '73 Jazz.  As good as my other Alembics are, they weren't as comfortable initially (they are now, though!).  I was able to coax the most amazing tones out of the Essence.  It's sick good.  As I was trying it out, a local professional who just got off tour with Christina Aguilera commented how great it sounded (not my playing, of course!).  If he likes it (and he's a monster player) it must be good!

The body is a lot smaller in person than it is in pictures, BTW.  Suits me just fine - I like the smaller body.  Again, very comfortable, and the neck is to die for.  It reminds me of my Rick and Pedulla necks, which I absolutely love.  Nice and thin, and fast.

If I'm not mistaken, you're the one who turned me onto my Dragon's Wing.  Thanks - she's only gotten better with age!

Thanks again,

Alan

Alan,
I'm glad you're enjoying it.  I'd like to take credit for your experience with the Dragon's Wing but I can't, honestly.
I had the same love-at-first-play with the Rick 3000 that I bought new in about 1974 or 1975.  It felt like the bass and I just bonded immediately.  It wasn't nearly the bass that my Alembics are but I definitely loved that thing.  I couldn't have better described the neck.  Nice and thin, and fast, exactly like you said.

Rich,

If you hadn't turned me on to the Wing, someone else might be playing it today.  I owe you!

The Essence is incredible.  I just can't get over it.

Mica,

I can tell you that the body isn't mahogany.  It's maple from what I can tell.  If you need pics, let me know.  But it's definitely not mahogany.  Everything else jibes.

Doh! Auto-pilot there. The file clearly states the main body wood is Maple.

No worries!  BTW, is the previous owner a Mike C___?  It may be the guy I bought it from, and if so, he's the original owner.

Thanks again,

Alan

I do know that Mike said he used to work at the Guitar Showcase when I talked to him.
