I think a lot of folks around here are going to really like this bass. First, most of us appreciate the early instruments; we connect with the classic shapes as symbols of Alembic and for the roles they played in the evolution of our music. Second, many of us have an appreciation for the particular inspiration for this bass. The combination of woods, the body shape; not only is it a really nice tribute, but its goal is a certain magical tone.
I particularly like the story of how Vincent came to place the order.
Go take a look here (http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_rhumbaretro.html) (its not posted to the main Alembic site yet, as Mica wanted you all to get the first peek). Congrats Vincent! It's a very special bass!

What a great old-school Alembic vibe - with forty plus years of refinement as an integral part of the package. Glorious. It must sound amazing.

Awesome!
When I was at the mothership there was another Osage Orange being commissioned that grabbed my attention. That's all I'll say about that...
Congrats Vincent!... That's an amazing bass you've got there!

I really like how the schedua melts into the neck woods on the body. Graceful transition is correct.
Simply stunning.

I have a soft spot for old school vintage Alembic designs.
Another fitting tribute to the formative years of the company that forever changed how electric basses and guitars are designed, built and amplified.
Bravo Vincent & Alembic!

Very nice! I'm intrigued by the wood choices in the neck. As an owner of an old school Alembic it's nice to see that great ideas have longevity.
Play in peace Vincent,
Pete

Very lovely! Play it with passion and sensitivity, Vincent (I'm sure you already do)!

Instruments like this is what brought Alembic to the forefront of bass manufacturers; to pay homage to Alembic in this fashion is just outstanding. It's not easy hoisting 11 or 12 pounds onto your shoulder for a gig, but for me (even at 54 years of age) it is an honor & a privilege to perform with & represent the elite producer of bass guitars in the world. A labor of love, if you will.....
Fantastic bass, Vincent, may you two have many wonderful years together.

So, #1 was 72-01, right? I was born in 72.
And now I am, according to Mica, approaching 50.
That hurts, Mica, it really does.

Ha! Just wait. It goes FAST!
