Hi fmm,
Here's what the file said about your newly acquired bass:
85 3471 LBI-4
top and back: Bird's-eye Maple
core: Mahogany
neck: Maple (probably has Purpleheart too), 34 long scale
fingerboard: Ebony with mother of pearl inlays
peghead veneers: Maple
originally made for: private individual in WI
birthday: January 29, 1985
There are two previous owners. Both the original owner and second owner were in Wisconsin, so it hasn't travelled too far to be with you.
The bass was here in 1990 when James refretted it on March 12.
That's all!

It's just had a birthday! It's now old enough to drink.
I'm pretty sure the neck lamintes aren't purpleheart. I'm guessing walnut, but my wife thinks they're mahogany based on the grain. I'm going to try to post some pictures this weekend.

My bass is 40 years old today!!!!
