Just curious if this is do-able. Say, a pair of Thunderbird pickups running through Europa electronics. Would it work?
-
Better, and very much better with Alembic electronics!!!!!

Because it s like to own a Ferrari with Skoda engine!!!!

How about this analogy ___ Standing on a skate board with a Jet Engine strapped on your back
Perhaps there might be technical concerns and adjustments to be made with impedance matching and output attenuation of the non-Alembic pickup . Maybe ___.
I would think that the Alembic Pick ups have a much wider frequency response as well.

As Sonicus says most probably impedance mismatch..may cause distortion with High Z pickups going through pre amps designed for Low Z ones. Most retro fit pre amps have a buffer circuit to prevent this.

Thanks for the replies. An SF-2 would probably be a better idea, or I could just buy an actual Alembic. =) Still patiently waiting for the right one at the right price...

Since you brought up Thunderbird. What about this (http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_alembird.html)?

Keith , That Alembird is simply STELLAR !
gearhed289 ___ I highly recommend and support your idea of getting an Alembic SF-2 Super filter as per your post #12. There is NO way to go wrong with that and you will love it for use of any Bass . You can use the SF-2 as a preamp with a power amp as well and as a tool to get just about any kind of cut or boost in the audio frequency spectrum with just about any amplification application. It is a very unique and versatile tool . I have other outboard audio filters (state variable filter type and others ) such as the laboratory grade Krohn-Hite type___ but the Alembic SF-2 is the most musical and useful for musical applications for use by musicians in my opinion. GO SF-2 !

Yeah, the Alembird is a sexy beast!
Sonicus - I know what you're saying. I currently use a Sadowsky preamp pedal for similar reasons - I don't have to install one in every bass I own! I think the combination of that, an SF-2, and a power amp would make for a killer rig.

Kool ! That might be a plan __ .
