I finally got an Alembic. Even before changing strings or tweaking the setup I took it on a gig and couldn't put it down all night. Life is good.

Here's what I found in the instrument file:
 
WLB-5 Epic 5-string bass
 
top: Bocate
accent: Maple
body: Mahogany
neck: 5-piece Maple
scale: long, 34
fingerboard: Ebony
finish: Satin Natural Polyurethane (oil look)
birthday: October 7, 1996
originally made for: Musician's Friend
 
There's two previous owners of the bass. One in Wisconsin, and the other in Hawaii. In 1997, the owner in Hawaii sent in a picture of the bass for the file, it looks like a dark example of Bocate.
