Hi ... I love this bass, purchased it a couple years ago from Pat Moran in Texas. I am interested in whatever you might be able to tell me about its history; e.g., is it a one-off ... because I have not seen another just like it. I am also interested in the possibility of buying a new control cover plate because the original is cracked. IF POSSIBLE, I would like to replace the plate with a brass one of the same size unless you advise otherwise or the cost is prohibitive. Thank you for your attention and, most of all, for your high standards and continuing fine work.  FWIW, I'm an amateur musician, closing in on 60 years of age, play bass at church and in a rock cover band doing mostly 90s and current music ... even though I mostly listen to blues and jazz myself.

Hi Jim, welcome to the board!  While it may not be a one-off, that combination is certainly rare.  My guesses are a Vector body with Flame Maple top on Mahogany body, three-piece Maple neck, Ebony fingerboard, and probably pearloid oval inlays.  The controls are Volume and Filter with a single split P type pickup.  Nice bass!  Mica will post the actual stats when she looks up the card.

There's some complications with changing to a brass plate. The plastic plate is 1/8 thick, so a standard brass plate of 1/16 material will sit lower on the plate shelf, so you'll see 1/16 of the wall of the shelf.  
 
So, the choices are to use a thick brass plate (super heavy!) or build up the shelf 1/16 and use the regular brass plate thickness.
