Title: (x) 89H5232 Elan
Post by: kjeks on November 30, 2008, 01:09:01 PM
first, since I?m new. I?m an organ/kbd player who also play guitar and some bass, and with a passion for good instruments. (Hammond/Martin/Fender/Alembic)
I?ve had this Elan for some years, but know very little about it. (apart from being a great playing/sounding bass that?s absolute in tune all over)
It?s in all blue met. laquer, so I don?t realy know what kind of wood it is. ( It sounds and feel like all maple ) I also wonder if it?s usual that the ser.no. is put on the fretboard?

It would be nice to see if Mica (I understand you are The One when it comes to Alembicknowledge) could find out something about it.

Thanks for any help.
Great forum.

Kjell

Welcome! :-)
Most Elans have a Maple body and 3 piece Maple neck, so you probably got that right.
We love pictures here, please start your own Elan thread in the showcase section or post some pictures here. ;-)

Welcome! Throughout the 1980s, the serial no was usually stamped into the fingerboard. Not sure when they changed that.

My '90 Elan has the serial number in the Truss rods cover and control cavity
quote:birthday: not recorded (last date on work order is into spray, May 10th)

Original owner was from WA and bought the bass on July 14, 1990.

Hi Kjell,

Here's what I found out from the build record:

body: Solid Maple
neck: 3-piece Maple
fingerboard: Ebony with Pearloid (plastic) oval inlays
scale: 34 long scale
finish: Metallic Blue
birthday: February 10, 1989
originally made for: Guitar Workshop, Oslo

There's no other previous owners recorded in the file.
