Post by: redtiger on May 20, 2009, 09:17:36 AM
Mica,

Found out used, looks beautiful and still looking at it.
Request to know build history, especially body and neck woods.
Thanks.

In case anyone still is curious about this bass, here's what the file says:

77-829 LSB Fretless

top and back: Walnut
core: Maple Walnut Purpleheart
neck: Maple, Walnut, Beech, Purpleheart
scale: 34 long
fingerboard: Ebony, unlined fretless
peghead veneers: Walnut
birthday: September 20, 1977
originally made for: Lee Dorman?

That's all I've got on the file card, right down to the question mark about Lee Dorman of Iron Butterfly. He was on our user list in the mid seventies, but I don't know if it was for this bass or not. There are pictures in the Showcase (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8367).

Yes, the guy I bought it from said it was custom made for Lee Dorman but that he passed away before he could pick it up. The person I bought it from then bought it new and has had it all these years until sold to me!

How cool is that? There are also pictures on the Alembic history page of this bass.

Bye,
Dave

I thought Lee Dorman was still alive?

Thanks for the link, Ollie.
I just ordered Metamorphosis from their store. I remember hearing Butterfly Bleu on KAAY, Little Rock (Bleeker Street) in the late 60s and early 70s. I used to own it on vinyl, but it disappeared in the dim late 70s.
yipee - post #1200
