Title: (x) Serial number check 83S2862
Post by: acousound on January 18, 2014, 11:15:43 AM
Hi! I came across a 1982 Spoiler online and was wondering if you could track this serial number:
83S2862. They said there had been a headstock repair sometime ago for a hairline crack near the neck.
Thank you in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I don't have a record of the repair, but it's possible it was done and not filed. Here's what I know about this bass:

serial number: 83S2862
model name: Spoiler
model number: SMB4
top: Bird's-eye Maple
body: Mahogany
neck: 3-piece Maple
scale: 32 medium
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals
pickups: AXY4
controls: SB-I volume, pickup selector switch, filter, Q-switch, mono output
originally made for: Akron Music, OH
birthday: September 7, 1983

The original owner was in Ohio.
The second owner registered in 1993 and was also in Ohio. They recorded their occupation as luthier, so perhaps they did the repair?
