Title: Series II electronics
Post by: fthec on November 09, 2005, 03:13:04 PM
dear alembics,

I?m playing my almbic s2 going from the power supply mono to the amp (glockenklang) and when i use both pus it sounds like one pu subtract the sound of the other. maybe it has to do with parallel and/or out of phase circuit. is this normal??? I would prefer if I get the sound of both adding to each other. is this possible? the series number is 822158
thanks for the help
Hilmar

Hi Hilmar, would you like for me to move this thread to the Troubleshooting section where Val and Mica are more likely to see it and respond to it?  Or is your question a more general query to the group as a whole?

Hi Dave,

no problem. I thought about this but I was not sure and I don?t want to double post it.

Normally the pickups add together. It doesn't seem likely that the pickups are out of phase, otherwise you'd be telling us about terrible hum.

Here's some stuff to test:

1. Make sure the humcancelling pickup is plugged in the middle connector on the preamp card.

2. Locate the two center trim pots on the backplate, these are the humbalance controls. Rotate them completely counter-clockwise. Now, listen to each pickup separately and both together. Confirm they are adding.

3. Follow the  humcancelling procedure (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=269) from the FAQ.

Let us know how it goes.
