My Exploiter's volume pot is starting to go... popping, cracking and sometimes at full volume when it's supposed to be off.
Has anyone some advice on how and what to replace it with? I didn't see any on the store pages of the home site....
Thanks,
JP

Do you know for sure that it's the volume pot and not a capacitor? As far as what, if you need a new pot, I think you should get it from Alembic.

Also, if you haven't checked already, make sure the pot hasn't come loose from the body. The pot needs to be tightly secured to the body since that grounds the pot to the shielding inside the cavity.

Well, I guess I don't know for sure if it's the pot or a capacitor. I know when I turn it up it sometimes makes some nasty noise. Conversely, when I turn it down sometimes the sames cracks and pops occur and sometimes in the off position the bass is still at full volume. What might indicate it's the capacitor?

This is not my area of expertise, but a visual inspection is a start; I think it is the case that a bad cap actually looks bad. You can also feel them to make sure the connections aren't loose.

If you've already tried the self-cleaning rotating back-and-forth procedure, it may be that after 23 years, the pot may need replacing. To order one, email your phone number to the helpdesk or call us at 707 523 2611. You'll need part number 475-020 and please have your serial number ready so that we may update the file.
