hello everyone.  I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of an Alembic guru in the Chicago land area, I want to take my newly aquired bass to someone who knows much about them.  THANKS!

Hi Drew,
I haven't found any luthiers with a LOT of Alembic experience in Chicagoland, but I have used Rick Cremer in North Aurora to dress a low spot on my fretless Epic when I got it off of Ebay 3 years ago.
The closest long term dealer is Uncle Bob's in West Allis WI, the Chicago area dealer started repping Alembic earlier this year.
There are four or five Chicago Alembic players that have been on the club site, myself included.
What kind of work are you needing?

P.S. I'm playing at Synergy II in West Chicago tonight, using my maple fretless Epic and my Koa '81 Distillate.

hello.  Rick Cremer was the first name that popped into my head.  I have had them do some other work for me in the past,  thier amp tech is quite brilliant.  the work that i would like done includes fixing the clear coat (refinishing) and some of the alembic logo on the neck p.u. has been rubbed off and i would like to have it redone.  I know just about any luthier can do these things, however i want to take it to someone that can appreciate my alembic.  hope that didnt sound too pretentious.

I went to Rick some when I lived in the Fox Valley in the early 80's. In addition to Rick you might try Gene Liberty. I had him do some repairs and inlay on my Jazz Bass. I don't know if he is still doing setup stuff but when I lived there he was as good as they get. I think he is hanging out in Sheridan these days.

Yeah, Gene was the other luthier I could mention, but I've never had him do work for me. If you go to Rick, ask him if he still has the Mike Reed series 2 custom, and bring a drool cloth.

Yes, Juel from Cremer's and I figured them out after Mica posted an schematic they found at the mothership.  
 Here (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=4033) is the thread where we suss it out. There's another thread where the majority of pictures were posted. Search for the serial number 78-995 or the author's name juelu.

That's odd, I was just given a guitar to clean, set up, and give the once over before I give it back.  I was told it was a custom build, and the name on the headstock is Cremer.  Go fig!  Is that the shop on RT 31 just north of Rt 56?

One of the guitarist I used to play with in the early 80's had a Cremer. It's the same guy as I recall.

Hey Rog,
I believe Cremer's is south of Butterfield on Rt 31 and on the east side of the street, sharing the building with a bike shop if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the pointer to the thread. I remembered the thread with all of the pictures but don't recall seeing the one with the schematic.
