Title: Neck blemish
Post by: alembixxx on April 14, 2008, 11:26:56 AM
Hello!
I just have received my fabulous brand new SC deluxe coco bolo. I just have a trouble with it. The neck has a little mark near the nut. It is like a problem with the satin finish. I can't feel anything wrong at the touch... Its perfectly smooth but this mark disturb me a bit... Anyone has an idea of what could it be? Or how could I remove it? Many thanks in advance for any kind of help and friendly greetings from Switzerland!
Cheers!(http://club.alembic.com/Images/394/50759.jpg)

It sure does look like a little trail of superglue from affixing the nut baseplate. If it is, you can remove it with acetone.

Seeing it enlarged that much is pretty alarming!

Perhaps it's a drip.  At a glance to me, it looks like a minor finish flaw.  If the wood surface wasn't immaculately clean before the early finish layers are put on, then the finish doesn't stick on hard; if that was the case and it got bumped, you might have lost a little chip of finish.  The problem area got filled over with later coats which is why you can't feel it, but the absence of all the coats makes it reflect light differently.

I wouldn't sweat it as long as the finish on top of the spot is completely continuous with the rest of the top coat.  If you look hard enough, you can ALWAYS find something that's not perfect, even in an Alembic.

I agree there David, the sring anchor is slightly off centre to the relation of the neck laminates on mine(that was discussed in a thread last year) but maybe it makes every Alembic unique
