Title: F1X fuzz
Post by: dakine on November 09, 2008, 03:40:32 PM
Hello All, I've owned my F1X for about ten years.  Lately it has been producing a soft, but very noticeable, fuzzy distortion to the signal.  (The fuzz is not constant - the signal is being distorted).

The tone controls affect the fuzz, so it is probably being added before the EQ circuit.

The distortion is present on all outputs (full range, high pass, etc).  It is probably occuring somewhere early in the signal path.

I've changed guitar cords, instruments, etc. etc.  Makes no difference.

Any suggestions?  I have some basic tools and a multimeter.

Thanks!

-David

Have you tried replacing the tube yet?

Here is a link (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=242) to the procedure.

First, try adding a patch cord between the effects send and return. If the distortion goes away, then perform one of the cleaning procedures described  here (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=243). Sounds crazy, but it cures nearly all F-1X distortion issues.

Thanks Mica, I read about the return jack issue right after posting.  I tried the patch cord in the effects loop and it fixed the problem.  Sounds crazy is right!
