Hello,
I need to replace the bridge pick up of my Alembic serie 2 from 1982. I 've found a used pick up on internet but I need to make sure that it correspond to the one I need to replace.
The dimension of the used PU is corresponding to my old PU but is there any difference in the impedance?
The PU that is for sale is a AXY 4 pick up with an impedance of 900ohm
DO the original impedance of the pick ups on a Serie 2 from 1982 is 900ohms?
Thanks in advance for your support here.
Regards
Franck

Hi Franck, for a series bass you need the true single coil Alembic pickup which is the SC-1 w/hx . The AXY pickups are hum cancelling pickups and are used in the Stanley Clarke and Mark King signature basses.
The series basses use true single coil pickups and a separate hum cancelling coil and electronics in the bass body to get rid of interference.
Whether an AXY would still work I could not say for sure but I imagine you would have a problem getting the hum cancelling system to work effectively with two different types of pickups.
If you make a call to Alembic, Mica will be able to provide you with the right answer. I can't imagine the cost of a new replacement Series pickup would be much more than the ?300 set of AXY's i've seen on ebay.

Thanks Jazzyvee for your answer. It's highly apreciated.
I will follow your suggestion and will send an email to Mica. She might be able to confirm if the AXY can work or not with the SC 1 w/hx and hum cancelling system.
THanks again Jazzyvee

Franck, it will not work.
The AXY is a humbucker-ish pickup. Where as the Series require singlecoil (SC1) pickups.

ok Thanks you for this info. I will need to find the correct pick up then.
I've addressed an email to Mica. I will therefore see what is the cost for replacing an original pick up
