Been working on my VAST image collection for a good long while now and can finally get some new product pages going. The first one is the Stanley Clarke Signature Basses page (http://www.alembic.com/prod/sc.html) and I am keen to hear some feedback on it viewed on different devices and platforms.
I've got another three pages just about ready to go, and those will follow in a matter of days. I'll be sharing with my peeps on the Alembic Club first of course
After I get all the product pages revised, I'll be working on mobile-friendly stuff and some other cool goodies.
-
Page looks great! Love that you can view the different wood types and models. Listing options below is also a winner. I viewed on an iMac using Firefox and had no display problems, thumbnails expanded when clicked on etc.
-
Looks fine on Google Chrome, as well. I loaded all images fine, and want to own each and every example.
-
Looks good in Safari as well.
-
Actually frames up nice on my mobile already.
-
Looks great to me in Explorer and Chrome. And nice to see one of my basses in the mix.
-
Looks great and sizes perfectly on my Samsung Android phone using chrome, dolphin, and firefox. The added details like the history, retro model, weight, and body depth are a nice added touch and in one place.
-
Looks great on my iPad.

looks amazing mica, the breakdown of the kinds is helpful.
-
I noticed some of the standard models show full laminate necks as opposed to the walnut pinstripes.
Other than that looks good on Firefox.

I guess a Jimmy Johnson and Mark King page will be coming as well, looks great !
Looking forward to the forthcoming page indeed Mica.
I can relate to that story, when I first seen Stan, it was on a late night music program in the 70's when I was 16 or 17, 'The Old grey Whistle test' on BBC 2 and it was Return To Forever' who were on the programme.
I heard the sound and was awed at his playing but the only basses I knew were Fender & Gibson, I could not recognise his bass at all! It was a couple of years later that I finally heard of Alembic to which were very rare in the UK! The only person I knew in the UK who had one was Norman Watt-Roy who was in Ian Dury & The Blockheads and it is featured on the video 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick'

Worked like a charm on both iPhone and Chrome-equipped laptop. Wonderful pics! And what Keith said about the standard models.
-
Looks great!
Nice having the history as well as all the specs on the same page. Having the models lined up side by side answers a lot of what's the difference between X and Y questions
-
Mica ,it all looks swell !
Terry , I am a fan of that Norman Watt-Roy video with Ian Dury.
Everytime I see and hear that video , I think to my self ; there is some serious Bass playing going on ! I usually have to listen to it twice because I really like it .

Yeah, it's hard to show examples of non-customized basses, Keith, that's why I've got the upgrades (most of them) spelled out in the captions.
Glad to hear it's rendering well enough in these differing platforms. Thanks for taking the time to check and report back everyone!
-
I dig the new layout.
Also can confirm it displays correctly/well on the new MS Edge browser.
-
I like the layout, and I think it's a very good idea to include a little background and history as you did with the SC.
I would also include some separate pages about Alembic pickups and hardware, something that really separates you from the rest.
I would also really recommend for the Series' page(s) that they come with the power supply, and the options of playing a Series direct to power amp, and the original signal chain of axe-DS5-F2B. While these innovations did not happen yesterday, in a world where I get the question 'they still in business?', I think it's very important that your mom and dad's innovations are fully illustrated.
Most of us certainly think your parents' contributions are easily on a level with Leo Fender or Les Paul. While I know you Wickershams are modest to a fault, this legacy is not to be forgotten.

Well said, Brother Joey!

There's LOTS of new pages coming up, Joey. First round is just to update the basic product pages and sift through all the photos. Here's a few more to check out:
Series I Bass (http://www.alembic.com/prod/seriesibass.html)
Series II Bass (http://www.alembic.com/prod/seriesiibass.html)
Signature Deluxe & Standard (http://www.alembic.com/prod/signature.html)
There will be more Signature basses added to this page, and as it gets too big, they will branch off like the Stanley Clarke (http://www.alembic.com/prod/sc.html) page already does.
Hope you like the new information. I've got another pile of them raring to go in a week or two, should have all the basses tied up by then. After that, the guitars will get my attention, though really they all get attention as I go through the photos and organize more.
Again, thanks for all the feedback, it really helps me out knowing the pages render well on various platforms.

Fantastic work Mica! Looks great on my Android Samsung S4, IPhone 6 plus, and even the Nintendo WiiU on the living room TV. Makes me so want to place an order for another new build (yikes). See new the pages work! Love the select featured customs being included along with the other beautiful examples especially the variations of Coco-bolo. I also really like how everything reads especially the effective details and brief history on the Series lines.
-
Your pages are timely, Mica, since I'm in the market for my first Alembic, with hope that one day I'll request a special build. There is much to learn and a few club members are helping to educate me, so I'm certain I'll make a good selection (as if there is a bad one; they're all fine basses I'd love to own). I found your updates clear and quite helpful.
As for other feedback from the perspective of a NooB visiting Alembic, it would be nice to show additional examples of body types (K-body vs others, etc). A definition page that would help define terminology such as short and long scale, pan, control filters, various coil pickups, humcanceling, laminate, machine head, etc., or perhaps a standard FAQ for the new visitor that would include such things.
I've noticed there are lots of knowledgeable enthusiasts around here who'd offer input on an FAQ page or a sticky thread, for sure, and I've found this forum a treasure trove of great threads and posts in my quest to learn more. Also, I really enjoyed reading the history of Alembic and look forward to seeing an update to the ongoing Alembic story.
The quality of all the pictures are wonderful, too. In fact, I have one of the Alembic backgrounds on my screen right now. To this effect, it would be great to see a more substantial library of basses and guitars your family and Co has built (it would make great subject matter for coffee-table book). I see many incredible pictures of amazing builds via my internet searches and get a kick out of the ones you've posted on the website... more pics!
Some .wav examples of different sound various neck and body types create would be helpful to me, as well. YouTube serves to define part of that aspect, but I've only found one tutorial in regard to how the varying interface of control function in series and sig basses have direct effect of the specific timber and tonality of the instrument. That is, it's difficult to understand these powerful, dynamic features without hearing them, other than thru artists recordings which do not discuss control set-up, I guess. If anything, it'd be good free advertising to post a few corporate videos on YouTube (so many hours in a day, right?).
I apologize if such resources are already in the works or that I've overlooked them. Thanks for building great basses and facilitating this forum!

MWT:
'The combination of single-coil pickups and low-pass filter offer flexibility, control and responsibility for your own tone, and the included rack-mount DS5R power supply guarantees you'll never run out of onboard power or headroom, and allows either mono or stereo output. Nothing else on Earth comes close to this combination of tone, headroom, and fidelity.'
You'd never know about this reading what I'm looking at, but I do like the rest of it.
I hope I'm not a pain in the Omega Cutout !

Works great here also (latest version of ie on windows7)
A bit too well... that 8 string Sunrise tint SI Europa, wow... just wow :-)
-
Great work there Mica. Not sure where you find the time. I love the woodworking style on this bass.

bejesus! That bass on the link jazzyvee put on, does it get any better !!!
-
Mongo 4K i7 40 lane CPU with 128GB and twin EVGA 980 GTX cards on windows 10. It shows a 1 strip of the pictures down the center and that is it. I can download them and then view em, but that is a hassle. Irritating to say the least. Windows 10, what a joy!
-
I really love the way the basses are displayed, the explanation of the electronics are great as well! The retro in Bubinga design really speaks to me, but it would have to Series II electronics. On second thought, another Distillate but series II. So much to choose from, what's a bassist to do?!!!! The webpages are an awesome layout!
-
Absolutely love the retro design on the Stanley bodies.
Much more valuable information is now included on the pages. It will never be sufficient for some but your producing so much of a custom nature that providing much more information might actually stifle people's creativity. Great job!
-
Hey Mica, I know this would be a project all in itself, but is there a custom quote generator for guitars in the pipeline?
-
I love the Stanley layout, but wanted to point out the caption on the 4th Stanley Deluxe full image is misspelled: Stanley Clarke Deluxe in Chococalte Quilted Maple.
The variety of examples is staggering, as well as gorgeous. Excellent work.

Updates to the bass product pages are all done.
Please have a look around the visual overload on each page:
http://alembic.com/prod/basses.html (http://alembic.com/prod/basses.html)
I will be doing guitars and preamps next, then some of the older models - eventually each one will have their own page (I'm lookin' at you, Distillate!)
-
Looking good! But what happened to the sweet little Epic?
Bill, tgo
-
Distillate ! Awesome !
-
Thanks Bill and Wolf! Epic will come back when I do all the older models.
If you find any errors please let me know. We all worked really hard to make these pages accurate, but after looking at them intensely for a few weeks, I'm sure there are at least a few things I missed.
-
Schweet!! So much pretty wood on every page!
-
Looks great on the first pass Mica. Didn't see anything that was a miss.
-
When I click on my bass under the Orions this is where it goes.
http://alembic.com/info/fc_potb.html (http://alembic.com/info/fc_potb.html)
To overlook the truth in advertising laws I would gladly accept the Planet of Bass into my collection.
The Planet of Bass link under Essence is ok.
Keith
-
Thanks, Keith! All fixed now. I know what you mean, I want that bass too.
-
Will we also see Spoiler and Elan pages?
Also: I saw the Classico Deluxe in the pricelist, looks like there's no info of these anywhere on the site?
I assume its with Purpleheart neck lams and fancy front + back?
Love the new pages, thanx!

Spoiler, Elan, Electrum, Persuader, 20th Anniversary, the list goes on and on..
Almost on the Classico. Deluxe Classico has all Ebony appointments where the regular has Rosewood. I'm hoping to have some fresh Classico pictures to feature on a new page as well. The last one we made I did not get good photos of, would have LOVED to include them, but I've learned a lot about product photography this year, so I'll be ready for the next one (Curly Redwood!).
Thanks for the feedback, Flip.
-
Congrats Mica!
-
I have to say that you've become an excellent product photographer, Mica! I really enjoy your shots.
-
Wow Mica, lots of work but it came out great!
-
I would love to hear the Classico!
-
Mica,
Very nice job on the pages. As an Orion owner it's very nice to see the full display of variations on the theme! The Orion is a wonderful bass, the Birds Eye with Essence electronics is my bass (based on some of the distinct wood grain markings; 050W13436USA), but I have since added a 3-way Q-switch. The pages look great all around.

Hi Mica,
Any chance of us seeing a Bird Of Prey page in the near future?
-Brian
-
Mica,
Love the new page layout and all the pictures. Outstanding stuff.
I'm looking forward to the additional pages (Spoiler/Elan/etc).
Something related and yet completely unrelated- I'd love to see a side by side comparison of body sizes for the different body types. I know that the first time I saw an Essence sitting next to a Standard Point, I was amazed at the size difference. I think that size (and the weight typically associated with it) is an important factor for most buyers as they consider a bass and at this point those comparisons aren't available. If there was a way to photo basses (or even the templates) side by side to show a size comparison, I think it'd be helpful.

Mica
Alembic creates works of art, each unique in it's look and sound! What an excellent upgrade to the display and explaination! Awesome work!
-
Looks great Mica! Even on my slow computer at work! Much easier to navigate than the old pages. I'm honored that you used my Blue Orca for one of the examples on the Series II page. I'm still in awe of this bass & can't believe she's mine!
-
Hopefully the Epic is just in the process of having its page updated, as it appears to be gone from the Products > Bass page. Was just considering getting a 5-string and I've become very accustomed to that body shape over the years.
-
there is somthing wrong with the text and link over on the page http://www.alembic.com/prod/sig.html (http://www.alembic.com/prod/sig.html)
all the text is on the left as a column and cover by the same link:

Thanks for the heads-up, Pierre-Yves. The link that Mica posted originally is no longer valid, so I edited her post.
The correct link for the Signature page is http://www.alembic.com/prod/signature.html (http://www.alembic.com/prod/signature.html)
-
Cool thanks !
-
is there going to be a 'vintage alembic' page so that folks can see where it all started & how far alembic has come.
-
A vintage Alembic page is a great idea.
