Here is a funy story that I think all of you will enjoy. I'm playing a gig last weekend and this guy comes up to me and says You guys Kick ass, but I can't believe you get that tone out of that bass. So I say What do you mean? He says Well no offense, but I have never seen a bass like that, what is it? I say Alembic. He says I would have never believed a bass in such a low price range could sound so good. So again, I say What do you mean? He says Well, I don't know much about them but if they were any good you would see more of them, so I assume it's an inexpensive bass. So I say Well, maybe the reason you don't see them more often is because it's a high end bass. I ask him how long he has been playing and what he plays for a bass. He responds with 20 years and I play a Fender Squier. I then tell him how Alembics start at roughly $5,000 and can go over $30,000. I also tell him to check out the Alembic website. The next night he comes back to the club and says Wow, how did you ever afford that bass? Don't get me wrong, we all have to start somewhere. In fact, my son has a Fender Squier but after 20 years of playing this guy had no clue.

hahaha, a common story I'm sure.
My general experience when playing my bass at gigs is that of... that bass really looks expensive
But I never tell them how expensive. In the main, bass players I've spoken to know about alembic but think they are too expensive not worth the money or they can't get the sound they are used to hearing ( read Fender), out of it.
The latter part misses the point of Alembic really. We buy them to have a different sound than the norm.

After reading some of the stories on here I am really looking forward to having similar things happen. Its been just on 14 years since I have played live and it is way past time.
My wife and I have just started rehearsing a new band finally. Just covers for now, but the idea is to get out and have some fun, and if someone from the audience wants to come and comment on my bass like some of the stories here I reckon it is just going to make my night.

two nights ago I did a gig in a local club as a sit in guest with a local jam band. I didn't use my series bass, I brought the Fender P bass (loaded with the Alembic Activator system). At the end of the night, the sound guy comes up to me and says wow! I've never heard a P bass sound like that! I could hear every note, full clear tone, articulate and warm and round. What the heck is going on? I go on to tell him about the Activators..he just nodded his head and says...well that explains it! He goes on to tell me how getting a Fender bass to sound clean and clear is a real chore and he was very excited to dial in my tone that night because he could actually hear defined notes and not just one big long note woohwooh all night.
yeah, it never fails. The Alembic tone rules, bass players and sound guys are the most grateful for it. In the studio, my series bass tracks don't even need post production work. The engineers absolutely love it.

I played a New Year gig a couple of years ago, with my 76 Series (see profile)
A guy said to me that it looked really cheap with that poor wood effect on it

I was standing next to the singer in my band today and he looks at my S-1 and says's that is some really beautiful wood in that bass
