Folks, Purchased a 1982 Series 1, which had been refinished (by Alembic) in BLACK, harware chromed, and tuners changed. Needless to say, the price was right. Recently had it refinished and thought you might be amused by the transformation:

Welcome to the club, Barry. Nice piece of wood under there. Did you have any idea before stripping the black off?

Nice Bass, Nice Birds Eye !

Bill,
yes I had some idea. I had emailed Mica with the serial number, and she told me about the black refinish, and that there was good stuff under it. Alembic tried to put on a semi transparent finish, but you could only just see there was birds eye under there with very bright light.
Needless to say, I am pleased with the result.

Beautiful, Play it Healthy!

One of the benefits of not applying dye to the wood.
Lovely Bass

Who did the work? It looks great! I just got a 60s EB-0 as a vehicle for some Dark Star pickups and it's an utter mess.

Ed,
a bandmate of mine builds/ refinishes guitars, does neck work etc. He did a great job even thought initially aprehensive about working on an Alembic. We are in North Carolina, let me know if you want to get in touch with him.

I think it looks cool black, but the natural is even better!
