Title: Posting guidelines
Post by: David Houck on March 09, 2006, 07:54:27 AM
In response to a recent thread, I have posted some posting guidelines to the Must Reads section.  I do this with some trepidation.  I hope my remarks are helpful and that they address the issues raised in the recent thread as well as others previously voiced or considered.  My remarks are not intended to directly address any one person specifically and I do hope that I have not offended anyone.  In posting these guidelines I am sure that I have left out many things that probably should have been included; I'll try to add them as time goes by.  And I am also sure that I have probably focused on guidelines that many will find overstated, tedious, preachy or irrelevant.  I may edit those over time as well.  There are probably some grammatical errors; and some of it may not make any sense at all.  I don't know.  Maybe I'll think better of it and delete the whole thing after I've had another cup of coffee.  There is definitely a personal element that may not really be appropriate for a set of posting guidelines.

I do sincerely hope the post positively addresses the concerns raised by club members in the recent thread.  I know all of you voiced your opinions out of your concern for the health of this board, discussion group, club, community, and out of concern for other members.  And for that concern I am most appreciative to you all.

Dave:

IMHO your manners post isn't really necessary.

First, I think we do a pretty good job of policing ourselves around here.

Second, if your guidelines were strictly followed, we might never have had the pleasure of your humorous post about tinting the finish with bong water.  I need all the laughs I can get.

I think you'll all agree that Dave's trepidation is unwarranted.  He articulates the common practice on this board quite well.

Anybodywho has spent time browsing usenet's alt. newsgroups appreciates that the tenor is different here.  Dave just makes that explicit.

Good job, Dave.

Absolutely! Although I am an every so often poster, I read this board at least 3 times per day. I find it informative, respectful, funny, educational, exciting, and always interesting. Thank you all for making it this way!

Dave.
I thought your post was very well articulated and like Bill, I feel that in many ways it is unneccessary. 99% of the time this forum manages to amble along peaceably enough with only the occasional blip. Based on the good advice I've found here, I've never even been on the other forums. (Who needs bad language and ill manners on the web when you can get them at work ;-)

Just so long as PTBO can express his dislike of cone pegheads and Keavin can talk about his 'special box';-)

As stated before Dave, you're doing just fine. IMHO, this is the most well behaved bunch on the net bar none. Having said that, the occasional regression into primordial behaviour is both to be expected and entirely human. Names of the culprits, eh, um, are witheld as to not incriminate myself, er, um, others, LOL!

Cheers,

Kevin

Well.....I think everyone here is well behaved.  Anyone remember the Yahoo Alembic club?  What a mess.  I was embarassed to read it sometimes.  After that, this is like a bible school.

Dave, you are doing a great job!

Not knowing what ROFL meant I did a google search and came up with this link listing a multitude of net abbreviations.  Very interesting and informative.  ROFL = rolling on the floor laughing

I've been a member for a while and hopefully have a track record of the behavior you spoke about in your guidelines thread. Very inspiring and very well said! I'm also a member of the Roland V-drum forum and for the most part it's also a respectful and thoughtful place where people kind of form relationships with faceless friends. On occasion you get someone ranting in an unfriendly way ... usually arguing about some sort of my idea or opinion is right and your's is garbage but for the most part it doesn't happen. And when it does the moderators put a stop to it as quickly as possible and remove the postings. I've also check out a few other forums and agree with your assessment that some other forums are filled with rude angry people. My question is WHY? ANYWAY just thought I'd give you my two cents of support. It's always a pleasure exchanging ideas, opinions and thoughts with people who respect those ideas, opinions and thoughts at least enough not to put you down for having them. And of course that's why we members keep coming back! We can all play and enjoy our Alembics without this forum ... we are members of the forum because we enjoy interacting with the members of the forum!

I agree that this forum is better than any bass forum out there.  Why?  Obviously because this forum has one feature that no bass forum has -  us guitar players!!!!  Adds class, intelligence, culture, and don't forget musical tones in ranges that can be heard by human beings, all the good stuff!!!  TIC

LOL!!  Of course he didn't mention whether he was talking about a remedial class, or the intelligence of which species, or the culture taken from what petri dish.  But yes, I agree; it's an Alembic forum rather than a bass forum!

So does this mean that this is the reason why nobody commented about my post on Louis Johnson's outfit getting him all kinds of tail back in the '70's. Maybe this will be the last post on this thread......oh yes, I'm not offended as nobody else should be. I've just developed a deviant sense of sarcasm after being on the road for ten plus years! Yeeeee Haaaawww( I'm from Texas, I can do that!)

Hi, Adam,

glad you're around ! I watched that LJ thread and ROFL (I just learned that here !) whenever mood took me (and that was alot). Actually, I like black humour, but as a Kraut, I don't know half of all the American or English tricks of words you're using. I suffer to catch up, and I'm coming...

Dave,
I think that the posting guidelines was a great idea.  I don't think that they should have been necessary, but for some people........like myself, they will be a great help. In fact, I've used them already.  I failed to mention that I'm southpaw, and that I think with the left side of my brain too! Ha, Ha.

Olie, I was born in Dallas but my dad's job(pipe organ installtion)moved us to Houston in '79. Do you happen to remember a restaurant called Pipe Organ Pizza? He installed all the organs for them. Well, that was a looong time ago.

Pipe Organ Pizza? Awesome! I was born in Ft. Worth myself, still have most of my family in that area. I can't say I ever lived there though.  We moved when I was still little.
