I've got some gigs coming up with a band that no longer uses amps on stage (they all use PODs or go direct).
The merits of that approach aside... I love the tone I get with my Europa going into my F-1X, so I'm hoping I can just leave my power amp and speaker cabs at home and run the F-1X like a glorified direct box all night long.
Can the F-1X handle running for extended periods with no load?
Thanks for any input,
Greg

Certainly!.......

Power amps need a load, not pre-amps like the F1-X. No need to worry.

Thanks - long live tone!

When playing with no personal amp on stage, I switch my F1-X to Post EQ, and I love it. I use it routinely for recording. I know of no DI type device I like better.

Hey Andy,
Is the effects loop on an F1-X routed to the XLR out all the time, or only when the switch is in the post position? Believe it or not, I've had mine for 10 years and have NEVER used the effects loop.
Thanks,
Charles

That's a good question. I'll check sometime this week. I don't use the effects loop anymore, simply because I never saw an advantage. My effects are all stomp boxes, save for the tuner, which gets signal from the effects send. I'll let you know...

Based on the F-1X Operating Guide, The direct out is switchtable between the output of the effects loop (Pre) and a signal affected by the volume and tone controls (Post). That sounds like the effects loop is always on at the direct out. I use mine for a DBX 166XL compressor/limiter.

This may be just semantics, but by output of the effects loop, does that mean the effects send, which would be just a direct signal, or the output after the loop has been included, which would be wet?
-
That does read like the fx loop is always before volume/tone, and DI is always after fx and either before or after volume/tone.
Now if the fx loop would be switchable between before and after volume/tone ...

Here is how my Operating Guide reads:
VOLUME - Regulates level of full-range and crossover outputs. Will not affect Effects level or Direct Out level when Pre-Post switch is set on PRE.
PRE or POST EQ SWITCH - Affects ONLY the Direct Out. Selects either the return signal from the effects loop (PRE) or a signal that is affected by the Volume and Tone controls (POST).

Cool.
Thanks, guys.
