hi,
i'm new here, just got my first alembic and wow, it's amazing! the way it sounds and the looks... first i thought almbic was like the king of all basses, something i could admire... i was right, and now i onw one! i used te think i could never buy one because of the prices (i'm the only one of my age (15)i know, who owns an alembic). so i bought it second-hand and it was worth every euro...
it's an alembic essence with the tone control of a europe...

Hi Bob and welcome to the group. You've made a great choice for a first Alembic and I can't help feeling very jealous that one as young as you has entered Alembic ownership. (Most of us on this group had to wait a long time before we joined the club).

Bob, welcome. I agree with Graeme. It is great that you got one of the best instruments at a young age. Congrats.

Bob:
Welcome to the club! Geez. . if I can remember back that far when I was 15 I owned a cheap Hofner knock-off! The cool thing about you getting this so young is that it WILL help you advance your playing skills much faster than if you had to work through 5 or 6 crappy sub-standard instruments (as so many of us Old Farts had to!) - your future looks bright My Son! You've shown great Wisdom!

Welcome BOB. Very nice bass. I bought my first new Bass on my 15th B-day. It was a 77 Fender Jazz. I was on top of the world I can imagine how you fell. I have a MK with the Eurpoa controls. It took me a while to tweak the sound but once I got it, BOOM bata BOOm, THumpITY Thump THumP. It smokes! You'll love this bass.
-
Hugh my first 5 string bass was a Westone. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a 5 string just in case I didn't like it. HUGE MISTAKE. Turned me off on 5 string basses for years.

Welcome Bob, and congratulations! An Alembic at 15 - nice. =) I played an Alembic guitar for the first time when I was around 19. I never forgot how it played and a little over twenty years later I ordered a Skylark. I wish I hadn't waited so long.
Best of luck with your Essence.

Bob:
Welcome to the club! You've got a heckuva bass. I'm jealous. I didn't get my first Alembic guitar until I was 49. When I was 15 I had a $30 japanese electric guitar from Sam Goody and a Heathkit amp I built myself that I had bought with my Bar Mitzva money. Play it in good health.
Bill, the guitar one

Westone should be barred by law from making 5 strings.
Actually, my FIRST bass was made by a friend of mine to practice on -- a 2X4 with frets drawn on it and nylon string tied into slots in each end. I actually took this to the guy I wanted to take guitar lessons from. Come back when you get a guitar, he said. But, but, I can use this! I insisted.
-
And the Westone was played through a MARLBORO combo amp.

Good taste for a 15 year old! With 15 I got a 76' Fender Precision, which is a great rock'n'roll bass and I still use it very often.

Welcome and congrats!

Welcome aboard Bob. 15 and an Alembic, sigh.
I suppose your girlfriend is Jessica Simpson?
Lucky young man. Well done!

Nice score, and congratulations, young sir! Like many of the other posters said, I too was merely drooling and dreaming about Alembics at your age.
Congratulations again on a fabulous Essence. With the Europa controls, that bass can't be touched by anything -other than another Alembic.
Respect and appreciate it, never take it for granted. It'll never let you down. (But always keep a spare 9 volt in the case.)
-
I also congratulate you on your Essence- mine is the best bass I have ever played. When I was 15 I bought a brand new short scale Gibson Kalamazoo bass- baby blue color. Played the heck out of it for 5 years and in 1971 at age 20 I fell in love with my first Rickenbacker 4001. Played it a the local music store and bought it, $500 with case. Great times- Michael

At age 15 I was playing guitar, a cheap Les Paul copy made by Aspen. It sucked. The strings were so high that I couldn't play past the 7th fret. I later switched to bass. If you are really 15 and own an Alembic hold on to it no matter what. After 30 years of playing, I bought my first Alembic last year and I cannot think of playing anything else. Welcome to the club!
