Hi Folks ,

Talking about cables , i'm wondering which brand should be the best ( considering wiring , contacts...)for jack cables ?

Many thanks for your advices .

I have trouble with standard 90 deg. cables like Horizon.   They tend to pop and cut out.   I have had good luck with Planet Waves cables.   I know that there are better quality and more expensive cables out there but are they really worth it?

For me, Monster's lifetime warranty (believe me, you only buy them ONCE) sold me as far as 'store-bought' cables.  The Monster BASS cable was the first time I ever heard the difference after years of Whirlwinds, Horizons, Planet Waves.  They were all well built, but the BASS cable just sounded better, I was shocked at the difference.

The best deal most of us here have run across for cables though, is Butch Ammons' Bayou Cables (www.bayoucables.com (http://www.bayoucables.com)).  Fabulous components, carefully built by a retired master electrician, at very reasonable prices with the same guarantee.  Highly recommended by those of us who've done business with this really good guy.  I can hear the difference in these as well.

If only I was smart enough to GO to Baton Rouge to pick them up, a great town for that South Louisiana vibe, nice people, great food, terrific music. Lassez les bon ton roulet!!

Hi Folks ,

Joey , i looked at monster cables here in belgium and i found a 6,2 meters cable jack for 179 euros !!!!   ....really expensive !!!! i hope it worths it's price ...and i also found a special cable seris for bass , and rock specially !

I think those cables must be be good , on the other hand , if you have effects units and pedals ( like me ) , if i wanted to have a complete monster cable set up , it would cost me a lot of money ...so i hesitate

I didn't found there any 5 pin cable at monster for my series 2 , do they make that ? ( bayou does )

Thanks

ALAIN

Take a look at bayou cables. Cheaper than Monster, and IMO as good as monster if not better!

I've bought 6 monster cables.  Four speaker cables for our monitors, a regular guitar and an acoustic guitar cable.  The regular guitar and one of the speaker cables soon broke - on both the tip of the plug broke off!  33% failure rate is unacceptable.  (Actually even worse.  Now that I think about it, the monster component cable I bought for the TV/Receiver/DVD hookups also failed).  I'll not buy monsters again.  I ordered a couple of Series 1 cables from bayou almost 2 months ago.  Still waiting as he is having trouble getting the right connectors.

Hi Bill ,

Well , very sad and expensive experiment you've had !!! ...For instance , i have klotz cables for years and never had a single problem with them but it seems they are a bit  tired  now...

So , monsters or bayou n that's the question !

I suppose bayou and monsters both manufacture 5 pin cables for series 1 and 2 , but never saw 1 so far ...

I recently rewired my whole rig with Bayou Cables.  They're very well constructed, and are a clearly audible improvement over the cheapo G*itar Center stuff I had previously been using.  I received my order from Butch within about 2 or 3 weeks, and couldn't be happier with their performance (and appearance!).  It's nice to be able to specify the color of the jacketing as well as the type of connectors.  I took a page from Paul TBO's playbook and got a couple RED instrument cables.  They're usually plugged into my Rhodes and Moog in my studio, but they always get a compliment or two when I use one for bass.

I've not been so fond of Monster Cable since the fiasco with their copyright protection legal battles, but that's been thoroughly discussed in a thread here a while back.

I was making the 5 pin series cables a while back.  I stopped because the 90 degree Neutrik was back ordered from the factory and was a 4 month wait!  That is probably why Bayou is still waiting for connectors too.  I was told months ago that they would be available in June or thereabouts.

Is there something wrong with the 5-pin cable you received with your bass, Alain?

Hi Mica ,

...Nothing wrong with my 5 pin cable , no problem at all !

I 'm actually looking for a place that can provide those cables because i would like to have another one because we're having more and more gigs so , as you know , cables are the first things to suffer from playing live ...so i don't want to face a cable problem in a gig ! ...i also  always have one replacement tube when i play somewhere ...it helped me once !

So , now , i feel that my old  klotz  companions are a bit tired and looking for a  refreshement  of all my cables !

...may be i should need another bass ...in case of i break a string ...and guess what , it 'd be another  alembic series 2 with an emerald green finish ...and front+side leds ...i won't say more now...!!!!!!  I'll think to that !!!!!

Thank's Mica

I've already said all the good stuff about Butch Ammons and Bayou's product, prices, customer care, etc. that I could (or that anyone would believe).  But --- Where else are you gonna get your cables in a choice of red, or blue or some of the other nice colors Butch makes?  My son will NEVER AGAIN walk off with my instrument cable, claiming I thought it was mine (Yeah, sure.).  Now, his is blue, mine's is red - simple - the way I am...
