Title: String Spacing Options?
Post by: echo008 on July 01, 2006, 03:45:44 PM
Hi,
What is the difference between the Standard narrow spacing and the Wide spacing option? Is wide spacing standard J bass spacing (which i think is 19mm)

Wide is 19mm at the bridge. Narrow is 17mm, and I think classic is 17mm at both the bridge and the nut. You can specify the spacing when you order - on neck-throughs I think it's a free option.

Gotcha. Thanks
The Essence I bought has the Wide option, I just wanted to confirm 19mm at the bridge

alembic will pretty much tailor the neck to your liking
if you tell them the spacing, scale and the nut width
mica can give you the details

i did this on my direwolf which is 1.75 nut- 32 scale and .500 speacing- my width at the bridge is just shy of 2.5 inches

I like the wide option, its not really wide but more like a standard spacing (think J bass), still very comfortable, no stetching.
with that said...
If I were to order one today though I believe i would still go with there narrow spacing and a smaller scale length (32in)
The Brown Bass I had ... I really liked the string spacing but was not too fond of the 30 inch scale.

I can confirm Flax's post that Alembic will do what you want.  My favorite neck is on my '61 Strat, so I brought it up to Santa Rosa and they copied it for my in progress custom Further  (maybe that should be the name of the guitar: In Progress)  LOL
