I recently purchased another Series I made with Koa but before I made the purchase I chatted with Mica about the tonal qualities. She was right on the money with what she thought the bass would and should sound like. It is almost like she has been around Alembics all her life! I could not be more happy with the purchase and I would like to thank Mica for her expertise in helping me chose this fine instrument. I love Alembic!

Congrats on your new Series I!  So, tell us about it:  New? Used? Shape?  Woods?  Pictures!  We want Pictures!  If you forgot where the Showcase section is, let me know and I can send you directions!  LOL
 
Do you still have your other Series I and the Series II?  Whatcha been up to?  Enjoy the new axe and may you play it to your heart's content in the best of health.

Nothing slips by you does it? For the record it is a used Series I, vintage 1980, long scale standard body and boy does it pop! The tones are very old school with lots of mid range and nice highs. As Mica discribed the highs fall of quickly and don't ring as long as my maple Series I but the attack is off the chain. I can change basses and right away tell a huge difference in sounds. As soon as I get a chance I will get some pics in the Show case area. In the near future I will take a trip to Alembic and get my standard refinish, slim the neck and refret job. I will also bug Ron about my six string!

I think I must have a soft spot for koa . . it just LOOKS so fine, I'm not sure I'd even care what it sounds like.  Yet evidently it sounds great, I'm imagining it's between maple and mahogany, a great spot.
 
I see those all-koa Taylors and just melt, and I don't care for guitars much.  Great find, rk, and about that old school sound . . . I'd lot rather have that in there and thin it out in the amp rather than hoping new strings and a lot of midQ push in the amp would grow some of it!

Great to hear from you and congrats on your new purchase.I'm with Joey with the Koa soft spot thing and Bill speaks for many,including yours truly,about the Showcase section.

I'll third on the Koa.  My '76 Series I guitar has a Koa core.  The sides are almost 3D translucent.  A spectacular wood, indeed.

Congrats on the purchase, Rory! I thought you'd left the club? Good to have you back.
 
The mighty koa! Even the not so glamorous 'watermark' variety is ever so nice to look at. It has like three or four kinds of grain, very 3D-ish up close.
 
To be honest, I don't even know what a non-koa Alembic would sound like, never having played one.

Me either as Flame Koa Essence is my one and only Alembic- I can't imagine EVER getting rid of it. It's also the only Alembic I've ever played. I can imagine that your Series 1 is fantastic, I dare not play it for fear of Alembic-envy!!LOL Great find, play it in good Health. Michael
