Kevin:
Congrats on a beautiful axe! Looks like Bocate to me, but what do I know? If you want info, you should go to the Owning an Alembic section, click on Serial Number / History Requests and start a thread there. Mica or Valentino will usually post the info within a few days. Meanwhile, enjoy the bass (I'm sure you will!)

Looks like bocate to me. It's beautiful whatever it is.

If it's any help my Essence has a bocate top.
Here's the link

Whatever the top is, it's still a beautiful bass.

I'm not sure about mine also...
Edwin van Huik told me the top wood is Coco Bolo, but it also looks a lot like Bocate:

I did a history request through PM, no answer yet.
-
It looks exactly like my Epic. I emailed the serial number to Alembic and was told it was walnut.
-
If I were guessing, I'd say both the basses pictured here were Bocate. Most woods have a wide range of figuring they can exhibit. It's easy to confuse Bocate and Coco Bolo, but Bocate always seems to have a more yellow or green cast to the color.
Flip, is this the one without a serial number?
-
Light does different things to some cocobolos and there are a lot of color variations, even within the same piece.

Mica: Yes this is the one, I can see something like a 4 and a 7 when I look at a certain angle. I think the number got lost when the bass was refretted (done by the prev. owner)
This picture is also in the html document. If you lost the link please let me know, it's still online.
Thanx,
Flip

I haven't lost it of course. As as explained to you, cross referencing the work order number is a tedious task. I've already spend 2 hours combing through files to try and identify the bass. Still don't know who your bass is exactly. Hope to find out someday.
-
Thanks! And there's no hurry, someday I will compensate for the lost hours and order myself a highly customized Elan. I'm sure about one thing, it will be a FC!
