Post by: ukbass on June 24, 2006, 09:47:31 AM
Is there a UK Alembic contingent / thread, etc?
Hello, hello, hello,
Is there anybody out there?
Just nod if you can hear me...
Is there anyone at home?

Hi there,

Yes, we're out here, but given that we're all one big happy family, we haven't really felt the need to set up a UK-specific thread :-) Just feel free to join in with everybody else's threads - you'll start to recognize where everybody's from over time.

Anyway, I'm based in London and own a Stanley Clarke Deluxe. Where are you and what's your weapon of choice?

Welcome to the club!

K.

Hi David, welcome to the group.  We have quite a few UK members, and from time to time there are UK specific threads. Here (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=10333) and here (http://club.alembic.com/Images/396/18010.html?1149549424) are some current threads.

Hi David.
Mike P has already mentioned the scottish contingent - He's actually from new mexico and I'm from near newcastle but we're based in edinburgh. The other 2 are scots - one in edinburgh the other out in falkirk.  I play a rogue fretless 5 and an epic fretted 5. You'll need to let us know where you are and when you're gigging. You can check out my band Big Tuna here (http://www.bigtuna.co.uk)

I'm an alembic devotee from the Midlands and have an Orion Guitar.

I'm the lead/rhythm guitarist for Apache Indian. You may recognise a couple of big hits he had in the early 90's (Ragamuffin girl and Boomshakalak?)
Here is his web site.  www.karmasound.com (http://www.karmasound.com)

We are touring a lot lately in and out of Europe.
We have a few gigs in the UK this summer which is a rarity. lol

Apache Indian 15/16th Sep Scotland  Knorraloch World Music Fest
Apache Indian 7th Oct  UK  Butlins Bognor
Apache Indian 21st Oct  UK York Musicport Festival.

If you are close by those venues, maybe you could try to get to some of our concerts.

I confess I loved Boomshakalak... fun, catchy song...I heard it playing while on vacation in the UK and just had to go out and get it.

Hey Jazzyvee, you've misquoted your 21st October gig:  it is Whitby Musicport, not York.  I'll be there!

Jeez Dave, you mean I'm going to have to be objective?  Could be difficult but I'll do my best!

Here (http://www.musicport.fsnet.co.uk/index.htm) is the Whitby Musicport site:  I've always found it thoroughly enjoyable.

Cheers for that . However York was the location given to us in the tour schedule for this year so I think I can be forgiven for that.
I've been and checked the web site and yes we are listed so it must be there.

I've just got back from our last gig at the rototom reggae festival in Italy. Fantastic, huge place very much like the Womad festivals.

Being on the road with Apache and the band is a great experience. On stage we have a great time and the audiences seem to like us too.

I'd be interested in reading the review too. lol
I know the Alembic guitar should get a good review even if those around it don't lol.

Sorry Jazzyvee:  criticism was not intended.  I realise you're only quoting what you've been told.  The last Alembic I saw being played was the legendary Osage Orange in May 77.

Dave:  having just read Bike Week, please don't think I'm seriously complaining; I appreciate the job you do here, and the (normally) respectful way people treat each other here. lol

I'm in London and I have a few of friends with Alembics too, some of whom post here.  I'm also an admin of Bassworld.co.uk so feel free to sign up and send a shout out to other Alembic users if you like.  I know of about 5 or 6 at least.

Hi Brit Alembics I made the mistake of selling a beautiful 4 String Epic to A London Bass SHop about seven or eight years ago and wondered if anybody knows where she went,  it was serial No.96W9975 I'd just like to know how she's doing. If anyone knows.

If any of the uk members have a series I or II bass for sale in small standard body 4 string(clarkee styleee) or Europa style 5 or 6. I'd be interested at the right price. :-)

But I would consider other body styles if the condition is good. Preferably newer models as I have a mortgage and dont want to have to splash out a fortune to get the electronics upgrade due to interference etc.

It's not the UK, but BassNW ships anywhere worldwide and they've got a nice Rogue 5 right now.  They're asking $2500US- Looks to be in outstanding condition~

Wow, look at you all.  I knew there are lots of UK members but I don't think I've seen all of you in one place.  Cool.

Good to meet you, Malcolm.  You know if you don't post pictures some of the more unruly of us (Paul TBO) will be banging beer bottles on table tops.

Speaking of unruly, Hey George, are you there? Come over and say hello.

Hi Malcolm again. Great to get so many messages from you all. Yes the picture on the web site shows a Fender because thats the previous bass player. If you go to the blog there is a pic of the Six in action at the Cuckoo Festival. We have not got it together to get some good pics of me yet as I have only been with then a couple of months. I plan to get some pictures together at the Cavern on Friday and post them next week.

Now that's more like it!  Is The Cavern in the same location as when the Fab Four played there?  It must be a really cool place to play.  Good luck!

Its the rebuilt Cavern in Liverpool, next to the one the Beatles made famous, still the most famous club in the world though. The old one is now a parking lot(Big Yellow Taxi.

Malcolm,
Is it a replica of the original?  How old is the new one?  That's still pretty cool.

It is a replica of the old cavern using reclaimed materials and an additional stage has been added as it is a really popular venue, The vibe is fantastic.
Despite being heavily comercialised to cash in on the Beatles history Liverppol is still a real cool place
