Hello everybody,
I've seen several times on ebay Alembic basses sold at very low prices (700 euros for example for a Mark King Signature Deluxe in very good condition). I've read on a music magazine a story abaout a 1968 Fender Jazz Bass bought in China by a french musician that was, in fact, a very well done false Fender. Does anybody has experience in buying musical instruments in China? Have you heard about Alembic basses Made in China sold as real Alembic ones?
Thank you!
Landry

ALL of the auctions that I spotted during the last few months were frauds. Original auctions were copied and lifted up on eBay either with a hijacked account or a newly created. AFAIK, there are no Alembics in China, there may be some good copies, but I would not spend a dime on one of these occasions.
just my 2c, anyway...

I don't know, I think there may very well be some Alembics in China. However, an Alembic in China is VERY DIFFERENT than an Alembic being sold on eBay by someone in China. A subtle point, but let's not let the (deserved) anger at eBay scammers blind us to the fact that there are living, breathing people in China, including musicians.
That being said, I would steer clear of any of those eBay auctions. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
