It just dawned on me - what type of strings does Alembic supply on basses ordered with medium scale necks? They don't offer any medium scale strings in their string line.
For that matter, where does one find medium scale strings at all, much less with gauge options? Inquiring Alembic fans need to know!

I'm finding the same problem for my 30 scale baritone. The tailpiece is back far enough that short scale strings don't fit (by almost 2!). Some manufacturers make medium scale, but they're far and few between. Try justsrings.com (http://www.juststrings.com/ target=_blank)?
Oh, and I guess I should also say that regular 34 strings fit perfectly on my 32 Spoiler/Exploiter, again because of the added distance between the tailpiece and bridge.

I had problems with d'Addario Slowounds in long scale, where the A string was to short to reach the tuner on my 34 Epic. No problem with the d'Addario XL long scales, at least not on my 32 Spoiler. There seems to be enough length left over for the extra 2 on the Epic, but I never actually tried them there.
There was a discussion about the varying distance between tailpiece and bridge between instruments - so it might be more of an issue on some of them.

I use Thomastik-Infeld 32 scale strings on my 32 Alembics. I'm currently buying them from juststrings.com.

I'd forgotten about JustStrings - I bought some Alembic short scale strings from them a few years back. I see that they have D'Addario Pro Steel .45-.100 roundwounds in medium scale for just over fifteen bux a set. Also, GHS pressurewounds, Super Steels and Boomers all come in medium scale at very reasonable prices. Cool!
