Title: Advise on a Real Good Gig Bag For My Elan

Hi All,
Any advise out there for a REALLY good gig bag for my '95 Elan?  I have the LEVY all leather one now. It just barely fits in there. I have a hard case, but it is clumsy and takes up too much room in my car. I appreciate any and all feedback.

I don't know about size, but Body Glove (yea, the scuba suit people) makes a hard-sided gig bag that is, by far, the most protective gig bag I've ever encountered.  I have a Levy Hemp gig bag that I love, but the Body Glove is more protective.  I have the guitar bag, but they also make a bass version.  Here's a link to a source:

I have an oversized Wishbass that I got a Warwick Rockbag for. It's semi rigid, gigantic, heavily padded, and has a velcro strap that secures the neck just below the headstock. It also has two backpack straps that hide away. Thanks all, appreciate the feedback. I have decided to go with the Body Glove. It looks really good and has a length of 50. That should work since my LEVY is 49. That extra inch will ensure that the bass is fully protected.

In terms of protective qualities, I love the Body Glove that my fretted Rogue lives in now.  I'm not so crazy about the upper attachment point for the shoulder straps (too low on the bag, leaves over a foot or so of neck above the top of my head, which doesn't work so well in doorways, at my height anyway. I'm willing to sacrifice the convenience of shoulder straps for better protection for my lovely Alembic. Also, the accessory pockets could be bigger, but that's a minor quibble.

I like the fact that my bass rides high on my back in my Body Glove, although I am careful around doorways.  It is very well-suited for bicycle carry.   I would even hazard a guess that they considered that when designing the bag.

I have successfully used a Dudepit Levy's Gigbag in Baghdad.  I have a couple of others I've picked up since in Seoul that are very nice.  I'll post some pics, but you could do a lot worse.  The Levy's is especially nice - lots of pockets, nice wide straps, etc.  It was in a war zone, so I know it can stand up to the elements.

I've been looking to get a good gig for my Alembics so I have been keeping an eye on this thread. I prefer a hard case but they are too big to fit in my car.  
I really like the Rockbag by Warwick and have a couple but they only fit my 3/4 Alembic.
I also have a leather bag that my Balance -k fits into but offers little protection (not much padding or reinforcement).
I wouldn't mind spending the money for an Alembic leather bag but would sure like to see one first.
I will check into the Body-Glove and Incase.

I'm using the Incase for my Excel-5s and it fits perfectly into the trunk of my car (Ford Fusion). The Incase is far lighter than the hard shell cases that I used to use and IMHO protects my babies as well as the hard shell.

Pricy is an understatement, but look what it's protecting!  I paid $150.00 US in January of 2005.  Love the slicker, it's got to be the brightest shade of yellow I've ever seen.

They've gone up some since then. I like the Incase though.
I'm going to take some measurements tonight and see if my Burl Maple MK will fit. It has a 35 scale and large omega body so if it fits they all should.

They have redesigned these now, there was an older  one which if strapped to your back .. the neck sticks out well above your head, and might snap off if you bang into a door frame (which you would do given the stupid design) Fleeced interior.
I  also like the the Brandoni ones you get from the Bass Cellar in Denmark St. London, not fantastic but comfortable to strap on, Fleeced interior.
I have a few Warwick Rockbags; they work and take a beating; and mine are worn through. No fleeced interior.
I also have a Fender bag for two basses. No real protection, and the straps cannot cope with the weight of two basses. Terrible.

The nicest gig bag I have owned is one made for Pedulla.  They are expensive, but provide better protection than any other I have seen.  I also really like the hook to hang the bass over the back of a door for easy storage.

I received my BodyGlove case on Friday. At first sight I knew I had made the right choice. I love the fact that it has some rigidity to it, but is still very easy to handle. My Elan fits like a glove inside this case. It is perfect. I will have NO problem using this gig bag. Thanks again for your suggestions.  BTW - 109.00 online at samash.com.  Pretty good deal for this type of quality and protection.
