Hello - i just got my EPIC and was wondering if the tone knobs are normal. on most of my basses the treble is close to the neck, the bass close to the bridge (i hope that makes sense). on my EPIC the bass is close to the neck, treble close to the bridge. is this the normal set-up? thanks....

I think mine was set up that way too, but I swapped it out for the low-pass filter with Q switch option. Think of it as the Bass knob controls the neck pickup, and the Treble knob controls the bridge pickup, and then you won't go wrong. Congrats on a beauty, and welcome to the club!

Well I was kinda thinking the same as above, the neck pick-up is the bassiest tone so to speak and the bridge is the trebliest, but that doesn't mean that the knobs are supposed to be like that. Actually now that I think about it, on my Carvin the treble is at the end of the bridge side and the bass is closest to the neck.
Just alittle input from me.
Very nice bass though. You are giving me ideas for my next one.

Nice bass..is that the satin finish on the body??
I put P/J acivators on my old 83 Squier and the tone config is treble then bass..maybe related to the old Selmer Treble n'n Bass amps..who knows??
What is the truss rod cover made of..I thought brass was the material of choice..is it ebony??

Not really just a 'satin' finish, but the rather thin polyurethane satin finish that was standard on Epics, Orions and Excels for the first few years of their existence. I don't think you can order this finish anymore - it's far more vulnerable than the standard polyester finish.
With the old polyurethane finish, you can usually see and feel the grain, where the current finishes (except oil) fill up the grain.

The truss rod cover is plastic - standard issue on set-neck Alembics. For a little upcharge, you can probably order an instrument with a brass truss rod cover, and probably in ebony too.
Your PJ activators probably came with the Low Pass Filter, rather than a set of bass and treble pots. Check the FAQ section for an explanation of the LPF, it is a different approach from bass/treble controls.
The Selmer may not handle the active signal from the Alembic electronis too well: it was designed for passive instruments. I remember playing through a Selmer ages ago, with a passive bass. Sounded nice and warm, but volume and dynamics were limited.

As Adriaan said the standard truss rod and electronics covers on set-neck Alembics is black plastic. You can order pretty much what you want though if you are willing to pay. I have a continuous wood truss rod cover and brass back plates on my fretless Orion.

Adriaan..no the p/j pu came with bass & treble controls, the options were bass & treble or low pass with q switches
I have all the original packaging wth specs
Selmer..oh yes the amp that did it all, guitar,bass and PA!!!!!!
