Hey, if the Belgians, Scotts, Salt Lake Citians, and Dallas folks can do it, why can't we?
Bill, how 'bout it?
Bob? Val? Doc?
I don't think the mothership could fit us all, but maybe Guitar Showcase? My band has a rehearsal studio, but it's tight with just the 4 of us.
Let's get some ideas together and get this started!!
Ken (TEO)
-
We could probably host about 12 comfortably in the showroom.
-
OK that's not fair, we in the Dallas group feel that we set the bar high with 15 Alembic's brought from home, so if you west coaster have a gathering, you can't count the Alembic's in the showroom
don't make us (the Dallas group)come out there!!!!
wait a second........... that sounds fun
David T
-
Hey, Dave, We'd love to have you join us...except so far it appears it's just you, me and Mica! That would about tie the Dallas get together INCLUDING the showroom basses!
Rory?
Bill?
Anybody?
Bueller?
-
I'm game...there's a lot of guys in the bay with Alembics, aside from the above mentioned usual suspects....Paul's in Sacramento, that's not far...Eric in the south Bay, Rod in SF, Yah Yah,...and lots more I forget at the moment.
Valentino
-
Hey, Val...I figured you know of A LOT of them...
OK, David, If Val makes it with his, we won't count the showroom basses!
I may regret this, but why not have interested parties e-mail me (see my profile) with a GENERAL availability, and maybe we can figure out how many to plan for, and with that number, where to have it. We'll give it a week for people to find this posting and figure out their schedules.
Oh God!! Did I just volunteer myself to organize something?? Now we're in trouble!!:-)
Ken
-
I'm in. Do instruments with Alembic guts count?
Bill, tgo
-
I'm coming over in a couple of years if you can wait that long ;-)
graeme
-
Hi Ken--
I'm definitely interested in getting together. Email to follow, per your request.
Eric
-
If we wanted to try a liitle jamming, I don't know if the Alembic Showroom would be all that conducive. One of the drummers I play with has a ranch with a big comfy ranch house room where we play. He might be willing to host. So do we want just a meet, greet, show & tell, or a big jam too? And again, will Alembicized instruments be included? (If so, I know we can beat out Texas - hehehehe)
Bill, tgo
-
I may be in the Sacramento area guys in the next few weeks or so. DO you guys mind if one of us Texans drop in?
(Message edited by olieoliver on February 16, 2007)
-
Olie:
If they don't let you in, I'm boycotting! Have you ever been to the mothership before? If not, it is well worth the 1.5-2 hour drive from Sacto, even if there isn't a get together that works with your schedule. Of course if would be very cool if your trip coincided with a get together. Will you be travelling with an Alembic, or will we have to lobby Susan to lend you one so you can get in the door? LOL
Bill, tgo
-
Hopefuly I'll be able to stop by Alembic, I've never been yet.
Not sure if I'll have an axe with me probably not though.
-
The Dallas cartel will be happy to have Olie go out and check up on you's guy's and to pick up our cut
David T
PS; Bill, we even had 2 Turner basses in Dallas
-
Our cut, huh?? Well, I'm pretty sure Olie can be bought off with a case of IBC. Once he sees it all set up in a big tub of ice, I think he'll fold like a lawn chair
Eric
-
OH NO, ya'll see right through me. I've become too predictable.
-
Hey, Bill, check your e-mail
Of course Olie is welcome...I just happen to prefer diet Coke over IBC, but...we can accomodate...
Ken (TEO)
-
Bill (I write the e-mails, and forget one thing after I send)
Of COURSE I want to get instruments together, and Alembised guitars would be cool, too.
-
Just read this, I'm there!
Rory
-
Just cuz I'm in Hawaii I was born and raised in Monta Vista/Cupertino, and spent some good years in Los Gatos before I left to come here in 1990. So I would like to be in this chapter if you don't mind.
Plus my credentials are that I ordered my Series II (Mele Aloha) from Dan at Guitar Showcase.
So does any of this have any weight?LOL Pull?LOL
-
Paul-
You're in Hawaii- that certainly puts you in the Pacific Club. I'd be more than happy to meet you halfway for our get together. Halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand looks to be Samoa, but if we veer slightly to the east, we'd land in Tahiti. =)
Let me know when a convienent time would be.
Toby
-
I'd love to bring the big ol' Series 1 doubleneck, but I'm still not convinced the case will fit in my car... Good thing I had a rental when I brought my Exploiter out here!
-
Oh Lord, stuck in Lodi again! LOL
Bill, tgo
-
Eric, you trumped my ace, how can I beat a case of IBC?
David T
-
Ok, bumping this thread to see if any other Bay Area folks are in.
We're still working out where and when, but as far as who, this is what I have so far:
Bill
Valentino
Eric
Harry
Rory
Me
and a possible visit from Olie, depending on when.
Anyone else?
Bob? Kent? We need more Rogues, guys!
Ken(TEO)
-
OK, I'm in, schedule allowing....
Kent
-
Doc, you getting in on this? And, if you're still out there orbiting in cyberspace, sfnic would be very welcome.
Bill, tgo
-
Oh how I wish I lived out there...hopefully I'll hear it in Chicago, and you guys won't alter the earth axis with all the sub notes permeating the crust.
-
Paul,
That may actually happen...we are in an active fault zone, and with Bill there, we'll have the upper frequencies represented as well.
Should be fun!
Ken (TEO)
-
Hello Ken,
Please count me in on this one. I'd like to check it out, schedule permitting. Unfortunately I don't own any Rogues
- nate
-
I got a big thumbs up from my drummer friend to hold the gathering at his ranch in Canyon. Big and comfortable and in a place where we can make NOISE. We have a P.A., fireplace, and a refrigerator. What more could we possibly need? So now the question is when?
Bill, tgo
-
How does Saturday afternoon, March 24th, look for everyone?
Bill, tgo
-
I won't be able to make it until around 3 or 4 - will it still be going on by then?
The next Saturday (the 31st) would be fine for me too, but again, I couldn't get there until around 3 or 4.
-
That day works for me.
I probably won't be able to take every Alembic I have, since I drive a small sedan; fitting 7 instruments in there is kinda out of the question.
Valentino
-
Valentino:
If no one's coming from that direction with room, I could come get you with my Jeep, if you'd like.
Bill, tgo
-
Bill, you truly are a scholar and a gentleman...;)
That's an amazing offer, you are certifiably insane!
It would take you something like 1 &1/2 to 2 hours minimum to make an Oakland to Fairfax roundtrip , and you're offering to do it 2 times in one day? (I do need to get back, obviously) That's incredibly generous of you, thanks for the offer, my friend.
I'd hate to put you through that much trouble. I'm thinking that I might be able to do 5 or 6. Two hard cases and 3 or 4 well-padded gig bags maybe. I'll do a trial 'load' and see how it looks.
Then there's amplification...no way I'm bringing a cab if I bring the basses & guitar but I hope & believe there will be enough to go around basswise & guitarwise.
Valentino
-
val please dont forget, lots of pics of your basses please!! especially the one with Madagascar rosewood(since the rest are cocobolo). your sooooo boring lol ;)
-
Hey, that's not entirely true! I do have one in Zebrawood! ;)
Valentino
-
And Bois de Rose!
lest we forget the eggplant guitar. That was built pretty stealthily.
That does bring the total to 1 non-dalbergia instrument, though.
-
Hi Brad,
you should hop on plane and join us, little over an hour...
The Bois de Rose guitar will be there; that would be the Madagascar Rosewood Jags was talking about.
It's not an easy one to photograph, that 's why I haven't posted pictures so far.
You 've got to look at it real close to see the grain. Just as the woodseller warned me, it gets very dark real quick. As a matter of fact it darkened even before it got glued on, and sanding it did not restore the color it had earlier.
I suspect that with as many bass players as we're gonna have I'll get to play more if I bring my guitar. ;)
Valentino
-
March 24th is fine with me.
Eric
-
hey val, when did you get back i thought you were gone for a bit? i just got a zebra top orion 5 also.though it got damaged during shipping, the strap locks came out of the compartment and severyly damaged the finish above the neck pickup, and a bit on the headstock. i think you guys have heard about it. she may be on the way back to the factory itself, i hope anyways. it needs a new finish job. i'm so bummed out
anyways enough sad stories about me. get a bright camera and take some pics bud!!
-
And I heard that Alaska is offering direct flights now to the Sonoma County airport.
If I can make the schedule work, I'll definitely try to be there.
Bradley
-
Bradley:
Are you in Alaska now? As for flights, if you're serious, you should look to Oakland Airport. Canyon (where it looks like we'll be meeting) is next to Oakland and 60 miles south of Santa Rosa.
Bill, tgo
-
Bill,
Still in the Seattle area-- Alaska is a great airline for west coast travel, and some eastbound stuff.
Is March 24th the confirmed date?
Bradley
-
Hey!! I thought this was going to be done via e-mail...I'm checking my inbox and not getting confirmations, and everyone's already getting things planned HERE!!! (so much for keeping it out of the public forum for safety)
Anyway...24th is PERFECT, so let's E_MAIL the location to all the confirmed people, and figure out a time. (I'm thinking afternoon, but we'll see)
Ken (TEO)
-
If I make it I will be late. I need to have more information about times and logistics. Sounds like fun.
Rory
-
Any possibility of moving to the 31st?
Bradley
-
Well, I think moving the date would be entirely up to Bill's friend who's parents own the meeting location. I'm OK with that date too, but we need to get the final word from Bill.
Ken (TEO)
-
Before I check into the 31st, is there anyone for whom this date doesn't work?
Bill, tgo
-
Looks like my Sacramento trip has been delayed (the Boss i.e. Wife, wants to go to Caribbean instead. go figure)guys so I'll have to wait for the photos.
Ya'll have fun...not TOO much Bill!
-
I'm good with the 31st too.
Valentino
-
I'm OK with 03-31 as well!
Eric
-
does this mean our cut is still on ,who are you going to bribe now,I guess IBC's don't hold as much as the Caribbean
the Dallas Cartel
-
3/31 looks OK for me too.
Kent
-
I talked to my drummer friend, and the 31st works for him. So is it the 31st then? I'd propose the early afternoon, starting say about 2 p.m. I have my guitar rig there and I could bring another guitar amp or two, if needed. People are going to have to bring bass rigs if you want 'em. Also guitar stands for each instrument if we want to do a group photo. The load in situation is great. You can back right up to the door. No stairs and stuff will need to be moved all of about 20 feet. Let me know if you're in by emailing me directly. Please put Alembic Gathering in the subject line. Assuming we agree on this date and time, I'll email out directions.
Olie: too bad you won't be able to make it. We'll raise a glass of root beer (or some kind of beer, I'm sure) in your honor. I guess you'll just have to suffer in the Caribbean instead. Watch out for those pirates! LOL
Bill, tgo

So, is anyone coming?
There is an idea afoot to also have a pot luck and bbq. There is plenty of room and appropriate facilities to do this. I will need a head count, then we can figure who's bringing what. All directions, the address, etc., will only be disseminated by direct email, so if you want in, better get in touch. My email is in my profile.
Bill, tgo
-
Checking with the Senior Management.
What are the planned start and end times? If we got done early enough, I could do a down and back (i.e. same day flights).
Bradley
-
Start time, as Bill mentioned, looks to be about 2:00 in the afternoon. As far as end time, I would certainly think we can't be playing past 10:00pm, and probably alot earlier than that. Also, I think that we will need some amplification, so if you have room, bring a rig. There should be plenty of people to help load/unload.
Bill, you did get that my e-mail WAS my response, right?.
:-)
GET YOUR E MAILS TO BILL!!!!
Ken (TEO)
-
WOW 2 to 10 thats 8 hours of jamming! Wish I were coming now. MAN!, maybe I can send my my wife the caribbean and I can come to the Bay area......
.....nah! Something tells me you cats won't look nearly as good in a bikini! LOL
-
I think we need to wait for Bill to chime in about times...I was just putting possibilities up, I doubt I could play until 10pm
Trust me, you DO NOT want to see me in a bikini!
:-0
-
Olie:
How about you come out here and send me to the Carribean! This looks like it's stacking up to be a lot of fun, but if you pick this over the tropics and clear warm water, well I think I know a doctor you might want to talk to. LOL
Everyone:
Where we will be has no sound problems whatsoever. We can get as loud as we want as late as we want. More realistically, I was envisioning running to the early evening. I think after several hours of oohing and ahhing at instruments, jamming, bbqing, eating, and just plain hanging out, we'll all be fully satiated and ready to call it a day. Also, there may be some who, after finding their way there, may prefer to drive out in the daylight.
Bill, tgo
(Message edited by lbpesq on March 08, 2007)
-
Bill,
Don't recommend that doctor, since his current prescription clearly isn't working, i.e. he really should stop taking that stuff...
If you get my meaning.
-
Hey, Bill
I guess a great mind thinks alike...or...ah...anyway, that's pretty much what I was thinking, early evening. If the road is like Grizzly Peak (I imagine it's in the same general area), then yeah, not too late on that road.
Maybe we could move the get-together to Ollie's place in the Carribean...
J/K
Ken (TEO)
-
Ken:
The road to Canyon makes Grizzly Peak look like 580! As for moving this to the Carribean, I'm in. You charter the plane, I'll bring the diet coke. Olie, can we all crash on your hotel room couch? hehehehe
Bill, tgo
-
Is this road just twisty over cliffs and such or is it unpaved as well?
Hey Brad, I got your e-mail, did you get my reply?
Valentino
-
Got your mail.
Senior Management gave the A-OK, so I'll likely be coming through in the anti-prius (Denali)-- I could pick you up with as much gear as you're willing to bring. Including amps, or a couple uprights.
This is going to be fun!
Bradley
-
Great to hear, Brad!
Let me know your travel plans when you've finalized them.
Valentino
-
Bill, I would rather visit the Bay area any day over the Carribean.
Sam
-
Valentino:
Narrow, twisty, 1000 foot cliffs, a few rope and bamboo bridges spanning huge canyons full of dinosaurs and giant monkeys, pygmies with blow guns, martian bikini girls with ray guns, a guy in a gorilla suit and diving helmet (name that movie?) - VERY dangerous road! Actually it is narrow and twisty, but no cliffs. A couple of hundred feet at the end is dirt, but level and maintained. You won't need the ATV.
Sam:
I do visit the Bay Area every day. A couple of Pina Coladas and some good snorkeling would be a nice break.
Bill, tgo
-
That's a good point Bill. I see palm trees every day and don't care for coconut.
Martian bikini girls? What is that doctor prescribing?
-
Sam:
Just an homage to bad sci-fi of the 50s and early 60s. So, can anyone name the film with the gorilla suit/diving helmet clad title character? Hint: arguably one of the two worst movies of all time (right up there with the infamous Ed Wood masterpiece: Plan 9 From Outer Space)?
Do I feel a new thread coming on? Look in miscellaneous.
Bill, tgo
-
Bill- Robot Monster (1953)
Mike
-
Mike:
You are correct, sir. You win a free root beer - must be picked up in person at the Northern Cal Alembic gathering!
Bill, tgo
-
FREE ROOT-BEER!!!
Bill your sure making it hard to go south instead of west!
-
I have no idea how Missed this thread. But, I am so in.
-
Cool, Doc. I've been wondering where you've been. This is shaping up to be quite a fun event. Directions and food info will go out this week by email, so send me a confirming email so I can add you to the list.
Bill, tgo
-
O.K, everyone. The email with info and directions has been sent to the 9 people who emailed me. If anyone who is expecting it doesn't get it, please let me know. Anyone else who wants to get in on this should email me directly.
Bill, tgo
-
Bill,
Correction, I got the email, but Spam Assassin thought I didn't deserve it.
This is going to be a hoot.
Bradley
(Message edited by byoung on March 16, 2007)
-
Bradley:
And what makes you think you do deserve it? I don't know if I'd want to argue with something called assassin, though the derivation of the word assassin comes from hashish, so it can't be all bad. hehehehe
As far as it being a hoot, I don't know if we'll be seeing any owls, but my buddy tells me there is a nesting pair of Bald Eagles that is commonly observed.
Bill, tgo
-
From what I can tell, the location is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in the sticks.
I'm sort of partial to another spam filtering product.
-
Actually, it's just a few minutes from Oakland. Canyon is a wonderful hidden treasure. You just have to drive a couple of miles on a narrow twisty road to get there.
Bill, tgo
-
Check Wikipedia on Assissination (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination target=_blank) ...
Today, it is known that hashishinnya was an offensive term used to depict this cult by its Muslim and Mongolian detractors; the extreme zeal and cold preparation to murder makes it unlikely they ever used drugs.
-
Everything appears to be a go for this Saturday's gathering. Anyone else who wants to come and hasn't yet received directions should email me off-list. As for food, the silence of volunteers rushing forward to do a bbq is deafening. May I propose an alternative plan. Since we are shooting for 2-6, we don't really need a full meal in there. Maybe we should shoot for munchies and beverages? I'll volunteer to make some guac and chips. Can anyone volunteer to bring something else to munch? beer? water? soda and/or other non-alcoholic bevs?
Bill, tgo
-
I could give you my favorite blender mix that goes great w/Kool Aid. I got the recipe from the Jonestown Cook Book. Beware though, it'll knock you down so you better have a designated driver.
he he he he whoooooo!

I'm bringin at least two really smokin tritips.
-
I just want to get my hands on some of Bro Walts Trip-Tip action. (http://club.alembic.com/Images/393/37977.jpg)

Well it's about time. After owning an Alembic for Series I for over 30 years..... Everyone, please give a warm welcome to The Man resposible for making me an Alembic player (he financed my first Alembic(which I still have)) My Dad, James Doc Greene I. Welcome Dad.

I'm just not quite sure how to reply to that.

I will be bringing some munchables; perhaps something along the line of meats & cheeses, or antipasto salad, or a similar appetizer-variety food. Maybe I can even talk my wife into making some of her world-renowned chocolate chip cookies, as well! Finally, I'll be glad to bring a case of bottled water.
Eric

See y'all tomorrow!

have fun everyone looking forward to lots of pics!!

Rats ...soryy guys ...I missed my plane!
Ok ...it's a bit lonely here sitting on a table all alone (the guys are off to some west-coast-tea-table-bass-guitar-gathering) with this empty bottle.
However ....I will keep on banging the table with that bottle!

I'm sure there will be more and better pics coming. This will have to do until then. 20 Alembics, one 1/2 Alembic, a splendid time was had by all.

This was a very cool event! To see the number and variety of Alembic guitars and basses, and even some non-Alembics, would have been reason enough to go. However, it was the people who put it over the top. I knew Mica and Val would be there, but it was a supreme pleasure to see Mr. (Ron) Wickersham there, and also to meet Mica's husband. Ken, Doc, Harry,Bradley [sorry if I'm forgetting any other bassist]--great to meet you!
I think a big round of kudos and thank you's are in order--first to Ken, who if memory serves, originally got the N. CA. ball rolling; Bill tgo, for handling event logistics, generally facilitating the gathering, and of course, playing guitar; Will--the drummer in Bill's band--for offering us the use of the meeting site and playing drums; guitarist Matt [hope I'm remembering the name right], the keyboard player [whose name I did not get], and mouth harp player John for making it a true full complementjam session; and Mica, as well as Val, for bringing some awesome Alembics for all to see.
I look forward to another gathering, and even have a suggestion or two which may be useful--but that's a subject for another post!!

Sorry--I forgot to mention that James [from Alembic] was also in attendance. I got to thank him personally for the inlay he did on my fretboard.
Eric
-
And thanks to Bills' friend (and now everyones friend) Will, for giving us a place to get together. I really hope we can all do this again soon.
-
Val (or anybody else who attended),
The first picture you posted- there is a bass (looks like a 4 string) on the couch. It has the brass control plate on the front and a single pickup. Do you have any other pictures or information on that one?
-
It's a Distillate, I believe. Made for the Japanese market.

Yep, it happens to be mine.

good luck with that quote, your not the first to think that!! though an estimate would be nice, if everyone there would like to write in and tell us we could add them up(hint hint). though i think val got a good deal on his stuff ;)
there is only 20 of them and i have a calculator.i estimate at least 250-300k!!
-
Food and beverages: $175
Luggage Tags & Sharpies to ID cases: $9.04
Staples for staple gun to post signs to house: $3.99
Electricity to run nine amps: $6.49
Twenty Alembics: Priceless
Bill, tgo
